The amount of money is absurd. He probably could have got to sleep with her for 5K. They were desperate and had lost everything..

I think Woody was supposed to be an LSU Architecture grad.
Not the first time something like that was written in for Woody.
White Men Can’t Jump had him as a former Louisiana college basketball player who was in trouble for not throwing game. The college was not named.
I guess this was a way to write him as a redneck hick as opposed to his Indiana farm boy identity in Cheers.

The Flying Elvises remain a favorite of mine to this day, including them fricking with Cage when he realizes he is parachuting out rather than landing in Vegas.

So did you ask your wife if she would do it?
I remember when the movie came out. It was a topic of discussion daily by people. Everyone talking about that question
I honestly believe age has a lot to do with how people felt about it.

There was one thing that I never believed from ID.
1. Redford would never have to pay for poontang.

Im watching it now.
I dont see it.
I think women will always leave a man for more money.
If they can level up a lifestyle.

There's billions of women on the planet. How many men on the planet are classified as "rich". 3 million?
Lot of left out women. That's where beauty comes into play. Strikingly attractive women are rarely with a poor or middle class man.

Solid movie, but hard to watch at times.

Yes many cringe worthy moments.
It shows many women can be shallow and look down on less successful men when they got a rich dude and or a good looking dude like RR.

They just released a race swapped (the entire cast) remake on the peacock app.

Not exactly the point though. He was wanting a specific woman and the point was that everything (everyone) has a price.
I think this is a movie that comes across very differently with the lens of today than it did when it was released.

The word you’re looking for is “Hypergamy”. For women leaving an existing husband or boyfriend for an “upgrade”, also see monkey-branching .
There are endless accounts of seemingly good wives/girlfriends going into absolutely shameless harlot mode when a high status man enters the picture. Especially if he’s physically attractive too.

I think Gage was genuinely smitten with Diane and used the $1,000,000 to drive a wedge between her and David.
Yes, he could have had any number of OT 9.5’s, but some women just have a look that stands out to a man. I think he saw that in Diane and pursued her vigorously so that he wouldn’t regret it like the girl on the subway when he was younger. He had probably ran through countless hot chicks in all that time but none that really captivated him.
I think he would have married her if she had the same feelings for him as she did for David. In reality, though, it is hard imagine a woman like Diane walking away from a billionaire businessman for a broke architect (especially when he’s better looking to boot and apparently good in bed) once the relationship initially fractured.
What’s the old saying? “Men are in love. Women are in business.”

Robert Redford, straight stalking this woman in this film.
I mean, I remembered when I did that at a bar, just showed up, trying to talk to the bartender and they freaked out.
If I was Mega Rich. I imagine it would have went different.
They have some strong emotional music in this flim.
That car ride after the auction was awkward. Once Demi Moore found out she was just a drop in the hat after the "million" dollar girl.
In honest, she wouldnt have gotten out of that Car, she would have just been mad, scorning Redfords his entire life.

Bring that she was so easy to flip to Redford kinda shows she never truly loved Woody. I didn’t believe for a minute that she cared that much to go back to Woody in the end. That reconnect wouldn’t have lasted long

i think this is how it probably would work out in most marriages:

So, it was $1 Million in 1993. How much would you be able to get for your wife in that proposal today?
Asking for a friend.
