The Shining should not be number 1.
Yes it should.
It's objectively the best movie on the entire list. Kubrick is a master.
And also because it is real horror.
I mean if Jaws is horror, I suppose that would be #1.
But people don't rent Jaws on Halloween, they rent The Shining, Exorcist, Scream, etc.

You don't like Kubrick?

I like him fine. But to say that The Shining is objectively the best is a bit too much IMO. I thought The Shining was a good horror film but if it were me....I wouldn't put it in the Top 10.

Kubrick is a good but still overrated. He took a story Stephen King wrote, changed it (which was perfectly scary as is) to make it "his own", then threw a bunch of easter eggs in it. What genius!!!
I like The Shining just fine and appreciate the movie, but it's not #1 IMO.

A shark can't have sinister motives...it's a fish. It doesn't have free will.
I just don’t even know what to make of this ridiculousness.

I thought The Shining sucked. Not scary, and full of highly annoying performances.
P.S. Any list that includes Jaws should also include Duel. Glad to see Jacob's Ladder, The Fly (1986), and The Witch in there.

I wouldn't say it sucked, but it never scared me in the least and I thought Nicholson hammed it up to an unbearable level. It's Kubrick, so from a directorial standpoint it's nearly perfect, but as a whole it doesn't do it for me at all. I would much rather watch Halloween or the exorcist. Obviously this is all subjective.

Am I the only one who would put The Blob on the list?

I personally would place The Exorcist at #1. Many people would call that conforming, but that movie is legitimately scary. Try watching it on a dark night by yourself. I did that when I first saw it and must have slept with my light on for the next few days.

How about Let The Right One In vs. Let Me In? Never saw the American version, but I heard it was weak.
I'd disagree. They are very similar, though there's a subtle but very real distinction in their thematic elements. The remake has more to say about the alienation within society than the original, especially in the context of Reagan's America. They're both quite good, just subtly different. Also, the sexual ambiguity of Eli in the original is completely gone from Abby (the equivalent character in the remake.) Which is good, because nobody is going to mistake Chloe Grace Moretz for anything other than a young girl.
One advantage the remake has is that it omits that laughable cat clowder attack.

Insidious doesn't even crack the top 100?
Speaking of the villain, why the frick has the lipstick face demon not been in the sequels? They keep teasing him, but won't make him a part of the damn movie. Ridiculous. Instead they make the old woman the central character. How fricking stupid can they be?
Sorry. Insidious rant over.

You can't rent on amazon prime and Netflix is basically a rental program.

Jaws isn't a horror movie.
Regardless of the genre, Jaws is the best movie on the list, IMO.
