How did Friday the 13th not make the top 100? Can't take this list seriously.

How in the hell is silence of the lambs not number one?

No Pet Sematary, Friday the 13th, or The Strangers

That remake is a decent film but this is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read on TD.
Then you must be new to TD because the 1991 remake is very highly regarded and basically did everything Romero did, but better. Turning Barbara into a tough heroine and not a shell shocked dope was one of them. I love the original, but to me the remake is the perfect traditional zombie movie.

Jaws's 1975 tag-lines:
-The terrifying motion picture from the terrifying No. 1 best-seller.
-Don't go into the water.
-You'll never go in the water again.
Fear is an absolute requirement for horror. A James Bond thriller doesn't make a whole generation literally scared of deep and shallow waters.
As far as the fish doing fish things, how does that disqualify it from horror? A fish with fangs is as frightening as a vampire or zombie when a human character is in a vulnerable situation. I guess Cujo was just a rabid dog with sharp teeth doing what rabid dogs with sharp teeth do: repeatedly attempt to mangle vulnerable human flesh.
PS- I'm glad the recent Train to Busan got some Top 40 love. You knew it was an instant classic.

Friday the 13th is to Halloween as I Know What You Did Last Summer is to Scream. Two of the four mentioned are cheapish imitations of two high quality slasher films. Friday the 13th isn't even the best film in the series.

Alien, The Thing, The Exorcist, Jaws, and The Silence of the Lambs should be the top 5 for any list. From there, people can argue how to rank them. Frankly all have a strong case for #1.

Also, great whites do not seek out and attack humans. They mistake them for prey like seals, walruses, etc. This shark (and their is some unique historic precedent) actively stalks and attacks humans well beyond its desire to feed.

8. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Great movie but I don't consider it "horror".

100. The Ring (2002)
Wow that's way too low. Top 30 at least, IMO.

Case in point, the final ten minutes of the movie. The shark eats Quint and then immediately comes back for Brody. A normal Great White wouldn't eat a human being whole for one. And if one did, that would be enough to satisfy its appetite for quite a while. The shark in Jaws wanted to eat all three men in that boat. And in the book he manages to eat two out of the three.
