re: I would like to be excited about Tron, but Jared Leto.

Music was great, visuals too. Leto was ok, didn’t bring too much to the role nor took away from it overly either. First act IMO was a mess, 2nd/3rd were better.
Really enjoyed the nods to the original.
If you’re a fan of the series, check it out, if not wait until D+ hits.

Leto's best film is called Mr. Nobody and is currently on Hulu. It's trippy.

Just got out. Took my daughter for her birthday. We enjoyed it. I didn't mind Leto at all. His demeanor worked for potrayiinf a security program
Am I crazy or was there an American psycho reference in there?

I just got back too and it was actually a lot better than I was expecting! Definitely a great visual experience. We saw it in 3-d in the d-box seats and it was a very good way to watch it.
Very cool nods to the original and Legacy, great music, and Jared Leto did a pretty good job IMO. He was slightly "wooden" but since he was playing a computer program it fits.

I dont know what that dude did in a past life, But being a Rockstar of a Band and a Movie star. Dude has a cult following made entirely up of women.
I dont know what else, but that sounds pretty gravy.
I enjoyed a lot of his films as well and his music.
But to the comment made earlier about being the "douchest lead singer esh ever"
Yeah, he comes off that way, but thats what sells and dropps panties.
Thats what that dude does, sells and drop panties.

I don't know anything about the guy really outside of some random things I've read about him (which who even knows are true these days), but judging him solely on his performance in Tron (which is one of the only things I've seen him in), he seems like he's at least capable of being a pretty decent actor. I liked him in this.
One thing that kind of bothered me in the movie though is why the hell he has a beard. He's supposed to be the ultimate AI weapon so I'm trying to figure out if there's some AI-centric reason why his "human" face would look a lot like Jesus...

Uh… no. Tron: Legacy was a good film.

Legacy is one of those movies that I initially was slightly disappointed when I first saw it (being a huge fan of the original) but over time I have grown to love it. This to me is the sign of a really good movie.
I think the first couple of times I watched it, it was all for the visual spectacle but once you get beneath that, there's actually a pretty cool father-son story in there.

So basically the same thing as Tron 2 and Daft Punk.
Legacy had a lot of world building going on where you could tell they were setting up for a franchise, but it just never materialized. Disney bought Star Wars and the rest is history.
This one appears to have no world building whatsoever and the premise for this movie (computer beings in invade the real world) seems flawed. Im not sure that's what fans want out of a Tron film.

Yep I totally get what you're saying. There was almost zero world building on the computer side. Every time they were there it was like they were just overlooking some more empty stuff. To me the coolest and most interesting world by far was when Ares goes into the original grid. I could watch a whole movie based on that.
The computer invading the real world definitely requires some major suspension of disbelief, but with 3-d printers and whatnot these days I was able to see past it. Not too much more far-fetch than a human going into the computer... :)
But I totally agree though, as a Tron fan I want more of what's inside the machine. The ENCOM stuff and all that to me is just the excuse to see inside. I've never felt any real drama or tension from the whole ENCOM/Dillinger thing (at least not since the first one).

I didn't hate it. Didn't love it. It's not as good as Legacy, but even that wasn't well received at the time (similar reviews). It's kind of grown.
I don't know if this one will. It's way more interesting inside the grid. They should have spent more/most of the time there.
It was a delight to the eyes in imax (no 3d) and the soundtrack is really good and in your face.
I don't regret paying to see it. Maybe I'll give it another watch when it comes on D+

I’m excited.
Things I care about: Visuals and music.
Things I don’t care about: Everything else.
Feel like I won’t be disappointed.

Perfect mindset to approach the movie, and you definitely won't!

Just got out of the Dolby showing. Solid tron movie. Only gripe is that some parts felt rushed. Thought it could’ve easily been 20 min longer. Leto was good imo. Don’t really get the hate for him. Nice nod to the previous two films. Interested to see where the next one goes.

I wish they would have tied more to Legacy than just a Sam Flynn resigns from ENCOM due to personal reasons.
So, old Kevin Flynn has the code to enter the real world permanently? Does he a disc to do so?

Morbid had a better opening than Tron:Ares.
Think about that.
Morbius,
Auto correct finding the truth.

I saw it last night. It was okay. Music was my favorite part. FWIW the woman who played Athena kinda freaked me out because she looked so much like Andre Braugher

I saw it last night and this was my opinion too. It was entertaining enough and not nearly as bad as the critics are saying. shite, I saw the Crow remake in the theater a few months ago. I’ve seen the depths of movie hell

The music was phenomenal. I didn’t know NIN was doing the soundtrack until I got there so what a great surprise. The driving beats really helped the action scenes.
