Hulu has brought back their Black Friday promo of $.99 per month. Yes it has ads, but it's still a fantastic deal, especially since they are going to merge Hulu with Disney+ in March.

If you're a current subscriber, create a new account with a separate email. You do lose your watch history, but it's $.99 a month.

You have to watch ads. They do this every year.

I pay for the no ads plan but I'm going to talk to the wife about downgrading.

Are we 100% sure this will work with the Disney+ merger?

This is true for gmail for anyone that didn’t know.

“.” Isn’t actually counted as part of the email address, so if you had email@gmail.com or e.mail@gmail.com, they’re the same email.

Took an act of congress to combine my ESPN+ account with Disney/Hulu - I'll just take the hit on the bundle price.

Also, Max with ads is 2.99 a month (reg 9.99) for 6 months (new or recurring)

I don't see why it wouldn't. It's not a forced bundle, they're going to merge the apps/content like Max did.

Also, big companies typically look at these kind of deals as marketing costs. They see it as paying $84 to acquire a customer, not "these customers owe us $7 a month, so when we raise our prices we'll change the terms and soak them."

Compared to other services with ads, I find Hulu to just be a pain in the arse with how they serve ads.

For example, Peacock will either show ads before the show, then at an interval, or they will show a few minutes of ads, then rest of show is ad free.

I recently tried watching the latest Justified on Hulu. First two episodes were ok with how they chose to run ads, but when I started the third episode, they literally ran an add before the show started, ran previews for the previous week, then ran another ad longer than the first. I didn't even bother to watch the episode or the rest of the season.

I have been doing this every year they have offered. Just go into your email account and add an alias.

thanks for the reminder OP, was going to get charged full price on the 23rd.

so, how does this work... if I am bob@gmail.com, and I use b.ob@gmail.com, do I get my notices and whatnot delivered to bob@gmail.com?

Or do I actually have to create a new email address?

Correct.

Nope.

bob@gmail.com is the same as b.ob@gmail.com and b.o.b@gmail.com, they are all the same email address as far as google is concerned and any email sent to those addresses will end up in the same inbox.

Test it out with one of your gmails. Send an email to one of you addresses but add “.” somewhere. You’ll get that email to your “non .” inbox.

I do this fairly regularly with one of my main email addresses that I initially created with “.”’s. Sometimes I’ll use the address with “.”’s, and sometimes without for various reasons.

Hulu with ads is basically just Pluto or one of the other free streaming sites

Ok for those on the fence- the Roku did NOT crash once.

I have long heard the Roku was the better device, but the Firestick has the better remote by a mile... I control my TV and AV receiver with it too.

Also of note-
A Haunting In Venice is a "new release" that went to Hulu. Otherwise you have to order it; it's "on sale" today at Amazon for $10.74, down from $19.99 (as it still is at Google Play, Vudu or Youtube).

That alone makes this offer worth my while, and why I did it. I figure there might be 1-2 more new movies over the course of the next year to continue with that.

Ad-supported; I got 2 minutes of commercials before the movie. None during it.

I’ve used Hulu on my firesticks without issue, so looks like your mileage may vary.

Also, Hulu has a decent library. The Bear, What We Do in the Shadows, Handmaid’s Tale to name a few.

I certainly hope it will work on the Firestick, as I prefer that device.

One thing that might have made a difference (although I don't see why, but it might):

I signed in on the Firestick, using email and acct.
When I swapped to the Roku, I went ahead and pulled Hulu up on the PC, and did the activation code.

That shouldn't matter, but I'm tempted to do the code activation on the firestick and see. Because the crash was that I was watching, and suddenly got a spinning wheel, and then I was at the Firestick home screen again.

Watched about 3 minutes on the desktop (despondently), then said hey I have a Roku in HDMI slot 3 that I never use. Let's try that. Hit the Hulu button on the remote (holding the damn remote over my head so it would read), and it opened, coming to that option. I chose to activate with code, and it gave me the option of resuming where I left off on the desktop.

The Firestick never gave me an option to resume, it just would reload, and then blammo
