one of the few movies that brings me to tears, in the manliest sense of the action. It is right there with Brian's Song with that.

Just the story of a man finding out that his Dad was a great guy, that he wrote off as a nonsensical dreamer and a liar. And now on his death bed he reconciles, realizing his father never lied and that all his outlandish stories were about his love for his wife.

It is one of the beloved movies on this board

If you haven't seen it, you need to. . .

Probably the best Father's Day movie of all time.

After watching it, if this scene doesn't choke you up. . .you are a robot:

I remember watching this in theaters and my friends trying to hide the tears. It is one of the most effective/emotional ending scenes (without overly forcing some sad drama) I've ever seen.

And all those cameos are wonderfully done without being a "look at me, I am a famous person".

The film and lighting changes between flashbacks and present day. . .

Just a beautiful movie for anyone with a Dad that they love.

Great movie with lots of stars making it flow nicely. I still laugh when I think of Danny DeVito playing the circus ringmaster and getting Carl the Giant to sign his contract:

"Are you familiar with the term Unconscionable Contract"? Followed by:

"Do you know the meaning of Indentured Servitude"? "Sign here".

Great movie, tear jerker for sure. If it’s ever on and I come across it, I watch it

What parts of the movie did you miss to not come to that conclusion????

From the time he first laid eyes on her in the circus tent he was in love with her. He took a hell of a beating wooing her while she was in college, went to war and took any dangerous mission to cut his time in the Army so he could get back home to her.

Didn't have the affair when it was laid out for him after fixing up that dilapidated house Helen Bonham Carter was living in.

It's Burton's best movie, AINEC. It also doesn't use Depp for his protagonist, which probably has a lot to do with the first statement.

Big Fish is probably my all-time favorite movie.

One of the best parts of adulthood was finding out how many of my dad’s crazy stories he told us as kids were actually true.

This movie is so wonderful, and it feels largely forgotten, which is a damn shame

Big Fish was filmed at locations near where I live. Wetumpka, Prattville, Millbrook. I would take my youngest daughter to the sets and watch the filming. Went to Sinclair‘s for dinner one evening and Tim Burton and Steve Buscemi where at the table next to ours.

Incredibly good. Even great.

It's honestly an absolutely beautiful movie. Like the cinematography and color, all of it is legit beautiful IMO. It's Burton at his very best I think.

And the whole story about realizing that your dad wasn't so full of shite, and that you definitely could have and should have tried harder with him hits to the core. The end of that movie is so great.

Exact same commentary can be said for About Time. I know quite few around here have seen it, but if you have not you should remedy that immediately (like seriously, tonight). If you ever loved your dad, it will tear you to absolute pieces (in a good way).

This movie got me good. Absolutely love it. I’ve never seen Big Fish but if it’s comparable to About Time it’s now on my must view list.

This scene was filmed across the street from my house.

Pretty bad. Tim Burton sucks. Sorry, see you at sonic.

I was expecting sort of an expanded version of The Wonder Years. After 30 minutes, I knew it was just dreck. Very disappointing.

This was 20 years ago, so thinking about giving it another whirl. But it left me cold - and I am primed to love things like this.

The end, with Crudup grilling and confirming the stories with his son in the pool, literally tears me up everytime.
