quote:Aemond turned back to Kings Landing, which is only just across the bay from Dragonstone. I assume Rhaenyra didn’t want to chase Aemond back towards KL because of the risk that a dragon battle over the city ends with KL on fire and/or a bunch of buildings and people crushed if a dragon falls from the sky.
I'd also question why they didn't attack when Vhagar turned around. They had the numbers and Vhagar is the slowest Dragon alive so they could have caught her and overwhelmed her.
Plus after Silverwing’s little fly by, now all of the scorpions are on high alert.
Part of her strategy seems to be to get the small folk of KL on her side and sow the seeds of discontent towards the greens. Having parts of KL being set ablaze inadvertently by any of her dragons in a fight with Vhagar would undermine that.
Doesn’t want to be “Queen of the Ashes”

I chalked that up to the dragons sensing Vhagar was coming near and everyone was out of the castle while the new dragon riders had just been paired up and they were flying around getting acclimated.
Vhagar wasn't aware that Silverwing was above KL and was taking a nap until Aemond woke her so I don't buy that the other Dragons can sense each other like that.
The practice theory holds more weight but I think she at the very least wanted to show her strength if not end Vhagar.
I guess they all could have seen the drunk fool fly off and Rhaenyra had them all ready in case they needed to take him out

She said on the show she wants to claim all these dragons and then show her force to the Greens in hopes they concede they cannot win against so many dragons and back down, avoiding a war.
She's naive to think that.

If the Blacks were able to kill Vhagar, everyone on the Green side would have to realize they were in an unwinnable situation and start abandoning Aegon's side, thus avoiding a war once Aegon has no allied houses left to provide an army and no dragons left that could fly into battle.

Bump for finale.
Still downloading on the episode…wasn’t expecting to see White Walkers. Who has Otto?
Watching alt shift X non spoiler Q&A right now.
I liked it other than the brutal buildup waiting for the next season. I think this show will age better on binge rewatch rather than episode by episode.
The pace slowed down so much after the dragon battle, but I still prefer this pace over S8 of GOT so I won’t complain about more episodes with more world building.

I like the pacing. Feels like the ending to GOT s6. Hate that its probably going to be a 2 year wait for season 3

Didn’t Aemon send someone to bring him back to King’s Landing to be hand?
I’m just used to huge moments in the season finale or the episode before the season finale in GoT and it just never happened.

I don’t even need a huge battle to end the season. I thought the season 1 finale with Vhagar going rogue and taking out Luke was a great way to end it.
But at least give me.. something in terms of payoff/conclusion. Don’t spend the last episode setting up like 6 different things and then leave them all hanging until the next season.

But yeah, I was disappointed in no battle to end the season after last week. At least let Rhaenyra lay waste to the Lannister army she knows is marching. Or a naval battle between the Velaryon fleet and the mercenary fleet from Essos

Very disappointing finale.

I meant to ask this last week but forgot. Who did Silverwing belong to before the town drunk claimed her?

Queen Alysanne Targaryen, also known as Good Queen Alysanne, was the queen consort of her brother, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen. Alysanne was a dragonrider, whose mount was Silverwing.

I don't want to give away anything in this thread but you are correct that some sort of conflict should have happened in this episode. In the books there is an order of things so it s not even a mystery as to which conflict should have been brought to the forefront.
Just frustrating that after 8 episodes, we are basically still in the starting blocks. Someone could presumably skip season 2 and they would only wonder how the Aegon got hurt, what happened to the Queen who never was, and how the blacks got new dragon riders. Literally nothing else of note happened and 2 of those 3 points happened in a single episode.

Wife and I said the same thing. She slept through most of the finale. Woke up and asked what happened. Didn't have much to tell her.

My wife went to sleep early and this morning asked how it was and I told her she wouldn't miss a thing if she decided not to watch it and to pick up in season 3.

Yep. It’s a good pace for the overall story and is giving us lots of conflict and world building, but not a good pace for a standalone season of 8 episodes.
They needed two more episodes this season at this pace, or they needed to cut out a lot of Daemons Harrenhall crap and get us a resolution to at least one of the battles before ending this season.

The Lannister host marching with a live fricking lion is so ridiculously on-brand.
