So when does Rhaenera finally get an army?
Think of someone we’ve already met this season who promised to contribute a bunch of old dudes to her cause. It’s going to take them a while to get there though

In the preview for episode 5, why do they say Meleys was slain by King Aegon? Is it as so simple as to not make him seem like an idiot from that battle and to seem like he did something worth noting for to garner respect?
Posted on 7/8/24 at 7:02 am to LPTiger5
To make him seem like a hero and martyr who would risk himself in battle for the safety of his people. The smallfolk don’t get to see what a PoS he really is like we do, all they know is “green dragon good/black dragon bad” (or vice versa). Much like in our real world, feckless politicians in Westeros are used as figureheads and symbols for causes largely orchestrated by those in the shadows

Posted in the wrong thread, meant to post in the spoilers thread...
Hot damn that was a good episode of TV. Very tense. THe dragon fight scene was just increible.
That was the best episode of the series by far so far imo and up there with some of the best of the GoT's episodes.
Not sure if it's just me but I hate to see dragons die The dragons dying was much more painful to watch than Rhaenys and Aegon. Just knowing that there won't be too many more ever to live kind of sucks.

It is not just you. I had read posts of others dreading seeing the dragons fighting each other, but blew it off. Until I saw it. It was not good to see.
I loved Rhaenys, and hated seeing her die, but I caught the vibe off her that she was ready to be done with all this crap. The dragons dying, though. Hate that.
I start looking at Vhagar as a villain, then remember the interactions with Laena. His actions are completely attributable to Aemond.
I think the dragons are well-aware of what is happening, and not confused. They are allegiant to who they are claimed by. Period. Such loyalty is admirable when it exists nowhere else in this.

This was easily the best episode so far. Finally got to see dragons fight dragons. It' always been unfair to have the humans having to fight dragons on their own.
Although, I could use a cheat sheet with dragon names, measurables and rider names.
agreed.
If Aegon is not actually dead, and is able to talk, wouldn't he point out that Aemon burned him on purpose?

I get we are supposed to hate Aegon but frick it, I like him. The actor has done a fantastic job and seeing how happy his dragon was to see him made me like him even more. He is just a dude that wants to have a good time. He didn’t even want to be king. Should have been Aemond.

I haven't read Fire & Blood, but I'm debating it.
If you had the chance to watch the series without knowing what happens, do you think you would have preferred that? Or do you think that having a general idea of what's to come makes the show better?

Assuming would get run down

It wasn't the smartest thing to do, but I'm assuming her thought was that if she could somehow kill Vhagar, even if it meant that she died in the process, then the war would essentially be over. Currently, Vhagar is the main thing that keeps the greens stronger than the blacks, if they got rid of Vhagar, then the number of dragons that the blacks have would just overpower the greens. Hell, even removing Aegon from the equation could weaken the greens because there isn't a guarantee that the realm would back Aemond.

In the books he’s basically doped up on milk of the poppy for quite some time. I imagine that and a healthy fear of his brother will keep his mouth shut.

My memory is so bad I probably need to be posting in the no spoilers thread because I can't remember half of what I read in Fire and Blood. So I can't even say for sure he is dead but i thought he was
Also, I'm ready for them to stop telling Aegon's dream/the song of ice and fire story. It was a major part of GoT that was completely ignored. All that does every time they mention it is make me mad. Ahh yes, a major prophecy for an entire series but just completely ignored and made pointless by dumb and dumber.

He's been great. It sucks that's pretty much a wrap on him until we get close to the end. OTOH, we should get more Aemond screen time now.

Yeah, I don't want to nitpick was was a great sequence but it made no sense for her to turn back and face Vhagar. Could have made a beeline to Dragonstone for reinforcements and made it at least a 3 on 1 pretty easily.

Having read the book before the show, it makes the show more interesting. The book is written from the perspective of two individuals who may or may not know the true details and their stories conflict. Seeing how the show clarifies some of the details is interesting

Aemond > Aegon. Aegon was a perfectly fine character but he wasn't fit to be king. His mom was right, it didn't matter if he didn't want to be king, he was, and he should have taken the time to try and learn something and become a good king. Instead he just got drunk all the time and made dumb decisions. Aemond is definitely more "kingly" and definitely a better strategical mind. I'm not going to lie, I was hoping he would have just chopped Cole's head off there at the end. I knew it wasn't going to happen, but I could have gone for another shocker scene in the episode.

Moreso than Aegon but his "strategical mind" just took out an ally dragon. Aemond is rash too; he's just more skilled than Aegon.

She did the same thing in the book though.
