You think that isn’t something GRRM didn’t tell them?

What about any of GRRM’s books makes you think he’s gonna give anyone a satisfying ending?

Satisfying does not mean epic, heroic, or fairy tale. In his books and the series up to where he stopped every main character that died had a great ending. Even Ned Stark getting his head cut off was a great ending for his story arc and the overall plot.

See the best part of his material is every time you start liking someone they die. Now in the last season it was complete crap.

In this case, no, I dont think so.

Considering in the books there is no Night King, and that is a D&D construct and GRRM was no longer advising the show anymore.

A contrived ticking time bomb final showdown also is the opposite of how GRRM typically constructs his action and major battles.

I think where he likely gave them a framework was that the big battle would happen in Winterfell, and that is where the enemy would be destroyed.

i gotta feeling there was still be a craving/demand for the ASOIAF universe once house of dragon ends and i think winds of winter, which will be a massive book, will lead to a new 'official' game of thrones tv adaption that undoes what GOT did.

just a prediction.

I think it's interesting how hard they are driving the prophecy angle. I never got the impression from the books that it was that strong of a thread through all of the Targaryens.

I can't remember which book it came from, but GRRM has a character at some point in the main books explain that all prophesies are really just bullshite.

****Minor Spoilers not about this story, but I guess technically could be Spoilers to brand new fans that want to know nothing about Post HOTD and PRE GOT lore******

It has agency simply within the Targaryen story cause they are obsessed with prophecy, and will often act in assumption, anticipation, and justification of it, and the Mad King at one point becomes fixated on things like wildfire due to ASOIAF dreams and presumably, stuff like this being passed down. So prophecy sort of serves as a narrative and background influence through the lineage of the dynasty. The prophecy also hints that it may be part of the motive for Aegon the Conqueror seeking to unite the kingdoms, or at least, that is the noble rationalization he likely used to justify his lust for power and that his descendants can use to paint a noble and just picture..

Might be forgetting too, but I think that was more about the ancient stories where people were reported to have lived for centuries and such. Sort of an acknowledgement that a lot of ancient myth, and most religion it's based on, is probably bullshite.

It obviously mattered to Rhaegar and Aemon. Which other Targaryens did we get insight into from ASOIF that would've known?

blackfyre rebellion has alot of potential...the characters in that arc are really intersting and the story is nuts

As someone mention the Tragedy at Summerhall is reasonably in part due to the knowledge, especially as Jenny of Oldstones would likely know the old tales of The Long Night.

I have a hard time believing that that he had Bran on the throne. Plenty of the other stuff, sure. But nothing in the books is bad enough to make me believe he has ever thought of something that bad.

I just want an ending. I don't even care if it isn't satisfying. I'd have more respect for him if he actually just finished the books, regardless if it is great.
