Yea, but we live in this world where it is creepy. It goes with the territory for GOT, but that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to be creeped out by incest.

that's the entire point. GRRM, as annoying as he is, is a genius and know something as taboo as incest would 100% make his story/show stand out. that's how people got hooked on season 1 GOT. viewers were outraged/shocked from episode 1 with jamie/cercei banging and tuned in the following week to see what happened next.

give the fat man his credit.

People are allowed to feel however they want, but watching a show that is based in a fantasy realm with dragons and applying current societal norms to it is weird, imo.

Who knows? The way they edited her sex scene I have no idea what her body really looks like. She doesn't show any skin in her all black outfits. Her face is pretty plain.

Some guys see a thin blonde and immediately think she's some incredibly hot chick. Her acting has been pretty good but her looks are nothing special.

Well I didn't tune in because of the incest in Ep 1. But the incest from GRRM own words is because royalty has always had incest going on.

I mean, compared to Taylor Swift, yeah. But I wouldn't say she's curvy.

This argument is silly.

So if a fantasy show includes aspects that society frowns upon (i.e. a character who is supposed to be 16 having sex with her uncle), it's weird for people to cringe at it?

I mean it’s a norm in the realm that it’s creepy too. Otherwise Jaime and Ceresi would’ve been far more open about their relationship (and their kids) in ASOIAF.

It’s normalized by the Targaryens but it doesn’t mean it’s not icky within the realm too. It’s not something you see the other Royal households doing to the degree the Targaryens do but they also don’t have the same scrutiny when it comes to purity of the bloodline either.

It’s icky as frick, fantasy or not. But it is what it is.

Piggybacking off this, I think part of what makes GRRM's worldbuilding so good, is that outside the obvious high fantasy elements, almost everything in his stories has some basis in actual history.

Some random examples:

The Wall and The Nights Watch

Tyrion's Wildfire

Rhaenyra's Plan B Tea

Even characters like

Cersei Lannister

Joffrey(the actor even resembles his statue) and also pulled from LINK

And with the Targaryens, GRRM seems to mismash a combination of Normans (mostly Normans), Romans (Valyria) and Egyptians (borderline obsession with blood purity)

It's like history but just altered and ramped up with fantasy elements. And the people never feel like an exact replica but they are close enough that there is a familiarity if you studied a decent bit of world history, particularly ancient civilization, antiquity through the Tudor period.

There's 2 different reasons that it's weird to cringe at it. One, it's completely normal in the world that they are portraying, and B it's a TV show and they are actors

ETA: normal for the Targaryens, exceptionalism and all
