Amazon/MGM eliminating her position altogether and restructuring.

Some Salke highlights:

quote:

She's the same person who gave the greenlight on Amazon’s $500M-costing “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” not to mention a $300M Russos Bros bomb (“Citadel”), and that $100M partnership deal with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, which has so far yielded a total of zero hit shows.

quote:

Back in December, a Wall Street Journal report revealed the behind-the-scenes friction between Salke and Barbara Broccoli regarding the creative direction and future of the Bond franchise. Salke reportedly started pushing for “Marvel-style” ideas to expand Bond, including several spinoff shows and movies. Broccoli, being the purist that she is, seemingly had zero interest in adhering to Salke’s Marvel-esque demands.

Salke was tasked with dealing with Broccoli, and her description of the franchise as “content” reportedly infuriated Broccoli, who reportedly stormed out of a meeting and later told friends that the people at Amazon are, “f***ing idiots.”

quote:

The source went on to state that Salke considers anything made before the ’80s to be an “old movie.” She’s not interested in the classics and never reads scripts.

“You can ask people from her NBC days about this, but agents and managers [will tell you] she never read scripts. She just makes deals with name talents like the Russo brothers and greenlights crap like “Red One.” She’s not material-driven.”

quote:

A seasoned writer-director additionally told Hollywood Elsewhere that two years ago, Salke squashed a “Conan the Barbarian” remake from “Game of Thrones” producers, calling the project ‘toxic masculinity.”

Barring a complete and total reboot/pause, it's over

Hasta La vista DEI lady Producer. Hard to be a good producer without reading any scripts.

And especially frick her for killing what would have been an awesome Conan remake.

There is no need to "remake" Conan. Robert E. Howard 21 different stories and most of them are awesome.

I'm not sure you can blame her for greenlighting these. The $500 million for Rings of Power might be nuts but I'm pretty sure they were in a bidding war for LOTR. You can argue about the execution of the show (I've never watched it) but betting on well known IP seems like a smart move.

And the Russos were just off of making the most profitable movies ever and we hadn't figured out they were going to frick up everything else they touched.

Phoebe Waller Bridge was also a smart bet after Flea Bag. It's weird that nothing else came after that. I know she was attached to Mr. and Ms. Smith but left that and doesn't seem to have anything coming from Amazon at the moment.

Prime Video’s Tomb Raider Show Gets Brutal Update 2 Years Into Development
quote:

Speaking to Puck, former Amazon MGM executive Jen Salke provided a brutal update, saying that Waller-Bridge produced nothing for the Tomb Raider series for three years. Salke decided to renew the deal for another three years, during which nothing was still produced. Salke personally oversaw the project after announcing a series pickup last May. Read the full summary of the deal and its lack of progress below:

quote:

Still, my favorite Salke move was giving Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the breakout creator of Fleabag, a $20 million-a-year overall deal in 2019. Sure, the TV business is littered with failed overalls, but when Waller-Bridge generated nothing in three years, Salke renewed the deal. Now, three years after that renewal, she still has nothing to show for it. Tomb Raider, which Waller-Bridge has been working on and which Salke was personally overseeing after announcing a series pickup last May, has now gone through two writers rooms and tens of millions of dollars in development costs. There’s still no script.

Amazon must have so much more money than common sense, that it's mind-blowing.

$60 million over three years with nothing to show for you, and somehow, you renew the deal for at least 3 more years?

Wait, what?
I watched both of those shows...

Rings of Power: they spent $250M to the Tolkien Estate just for the rights to make it, so that's half that total. You can bitch about the writing and plot, but the show looks impressive, with a lot of prosthetics on the Orcs, and you needed to build sets for Numenor, Khazad Dum and Eregion, you needed some solid CGI for Sauron, the Morgoth witches and the Balrog, etc. You put some effort into making the Dwarves look right, both as characters and alongside Elrond (doing the height differential). You also had to do the same height thing with the Harfoots (hobbits). And there's been 2 seasons so far.

Citadel, it was a decent action show visually, one season. How the hell did that cost $300M?

She sounds like every single f'ing thing wrong with modern Hollywood.

Hilarious she was allowed to light a billion dollars on fire before her reign of terror was brought to an end.

Men are better at making movies than woman.

Women are better at acting.

Men tell stories. Women tell lies.

I will never understand how such unstable and radical people achieve what they do. I can only think a cult-like mentality dominates their ranks.

Women in creative control of studios and IPs has worked out swimmingly, I'd say.

Can she call Kathleen Kennedy and then start a new studio for woke white women?

She made every decision knee jerk, based solely on brands and vibes, nothing of actual substance.

You watch these billion dollar IP failures and they are completely disjointed messes and people ask "Did they even plan anything?" and the answer of course is no they didn't.

I remember when they brought her on. She killed all those quirky little shows Amazon was producing and was supposed to make GOT type stuff.

Dammit, I want another season of The Tick.

Notice she didn't produce anything like Mrs. Miasel. Wheel of Time and LOTR crap.
