HBO Max on Roku is quite buggy lately

Anyone else find this? Will often take 3-4 times of starting a show without long delay and/or crashing.

Mine is hit or miss. It does take a little longer to load when launched as compared to other apps. I've heard similar complaints from other people as well. It's almost like they developed it half assed on purpose as a way to get back at Roku.

It's unusable for me on Roku. It just crashes or is insanely slow.

I dont have Roku but I have always found it buggy on every device.

I used Roku for awhile. Everything about it was buggy, it didn't matter what channel.

I have two Roku TVs in my house - one in my living room and one in my bedroom. I have been had issues logging into the one in my living room. Roku will randomly log off of my HBO Max account, and then when I try logging back in, it rejects my password multiple times until it finally accepts and allows me back in. Oddly, I don't have this issue with the Roku TV in my bedroom.
ETA: Both TVs are the same maker.

Mine will just crash out of the app. HBO Max is one of the worst UIs and apps for Roku. Disney Plus is pretty bad as well with how hard it is to navigate.

I haven't had it in a while, but HBO's interface has always lagged behind even Amazon Prime Video (which isn't stellar itself, but reasonably reliable once you get used to it).
There was a time when I had HBO Max, but watched the programming on Amazon Prime when it was free.
And, in a related note, while I love the Roku interface itself, being proprietary has disadvantages. Apps have to be custom written or ported. Something that uses the generic Android phone/table app is likely going to be ahead on stability, performance, updates. That is certainly the case for me with Roku and Nvidia Shield side-by-side. About the only exception is the Youtube app which is hit and miss for me on both.

I don't have an issue with HBO Max on any of my Rokus. Anytime I do have an issue with any app, I just unplug the Roku and plug it back in and that usually fixes the problem.

HBOGo and HBOMax on TVs have always sucked as far as user experience is concerned. I've sued the apps on Xbox and Roku. Ho-hum UI, buggy streaming, crashing, etc. The mobile version works great, unless you're casting/streaming to your TV, and then it's just as crappy as the Roku. I wouldn't pay for it if it weren't included with my internet.

it is unusable at times, but once i do a system restart on the roku, it generally runs smoother.

HBOMax might be the streaming service with the best content and the worst platform.
It was un-usable on the PS4 when I had it, and on the PS5 it still is the only service I have that often buffers on a 100 mbs connection. Sometimes it doesn't resume the show at all when I get back to one, other times it just hard crashes or freezes up.
They really need to get their shite together.

I found that to be the case on internal Roku TVs, but not on external Roku devices.
Also, I have a beef with them not allowing you to watch downloaded content while on airplane mode from a tablet or phone. What's the point of downloading if you can't watch it in airplane mode?

It’s been like that since its launch, but does seem to have gotten worse lately.

I don’t use roku but when my firestick does this I clear all the cache and it runs like a top again.

HBO Max literally will not work on my fire stick. Literally the worst streaming app ever created. All that money and can't make a decent streaming system. It's pretty pathetic. Yet Netflix and prime video are literally so easy to use

I have a TCL TV w/ Roku built in. HBO Max has been unusable for me recently. I did try, successfully, yesterday to go back to the app and was finally able to stream for several hours.

bad on Nvidia shield as well, seems to have gotten a bit better but a few weeks ago was crashing probably once an hour

I think that's more on HBO's end. I get logged out of my computer all the time with it and occasionally on my Roku.
It's nowhere near as bad as Showtime though. That one has me putting my password in every other week or so.
