re: HBO Max is about to get nuked and folded into Discovery Plus

I have a better idea of what is getting cut. The HBO Max originals (TV and Movies) are on the chopping block. Lots of stuff will be cut, some of the high performers will not.

The HBO originals that most people think of like Curb, Succession, etc are not HBO Max originals, even though they are on the HBO Max app (this is going to lead to mass confusion).

There are six HBO Max movies that have been cut already, as well as three upcoming movies that have been made. This includes Batgirl but also a Scooby Doo cartoon sequel I had never heard of.

However I suspect we will hear of many other cuts this week.

These aren’t generally the most beloved shows but there is good stuff on there, and the mass cuts will piss people off. Especially if they are removed outright within a day or two.

The anger will be much higher when the cost goes up by 5-10 dollars a month, those shows get removed, and our “gifts” are unlimited streaming options of reality shows about 600 pound, bed-ridden people.

However most of the shows we’ve heard of will remain, as will the general practice of buying rights to movies like Whiplash for a certain period (the company’s original plan).

We will definitely get much fewer new shows though, as the focus will be on cheap reality shows.

I don't understand the logic of completely removing their own shows from the service. Are they going to license them out? If not they are just locking them up forever?

I need HBO to be the big dog since AT&T gives it to me for free.

We really don’t watch HBO Max for the movies, we watch the original programming. Before today I didn’t know HBO and HBO Max were separate entities. If HBO Max cancels shows like The Flight Attendant or Harley Quinn, then I’m done. I don’t care about reality TV, and I damn sure don’t care about a damn shark. Why would the one streaming service that’s nipping at Netflix’s heels do something like this? I swear these Hollywood millionaires have never heard the old saying about looking a gift horse in the mouth.

i'm guessing AT&T won't be offering Discovery+ for free with AT&T internet.....

guess i'll never know how they frick up the ending of the new Game of Thrones
