but it fundamentally changes the story, the history of Lily and James, how he was treated by others at Hogwarts,
It doesn’t though? And it’s absolutely insane to think this way before that’s even filmed 4-5 years from now.
Log off for the day you old decrepit bastard

It 100% does
Some Whitey McWhite kids bullying and assaulting a black kid. . .than calling him "mud blood" and "Half Blood"
They hung him from a fricking tree
Jesus, man. The race of Snape changes ALLLLLL of that
You have to do better than pretending reality isn't reality

I'm not even a HP fan, and even I know it totally wrecks the narrative of Snape and how Lily and James will be seen. Especially James.
They said before casting even started they were going for a more 'book accurate' story, and this ain't it. Not even close.

And it keeps getting worse!

I’m not the biggest Harry Potter fan but my wife is a huge Harry Potter fan. We’ve been to all the lands at Universal, the exhibit in California, and the sets in London. She saw the trailer today and is pumped. She really likes the actor who plays Harry Potter. She didn’t care whatsoever about the whole Snape thing.

I don’t really care that Snape was cast as black, James Potter looked like an entitled shitty teenager making fun of him for being a half blood anyway, doesn’t really change that if he’s black.
There are a TON of hilarious memes on the internet now though of how racists Harry and his friends/family are since Snape is black and he’s the guy they hate the most.
Don’t want to post any here but look them up they are good

Is this supposed to be a bad thing? There are a lot of things we dont see in the books that would be cool to see on screen...

Anyone want to guess what these non-book additions are?
Dumbledore buggering that new young male professor?
Snape overcoming racial bias to become a professor?
Professors Sprout and McGonagall casting the Accio Scissors! spell?

Scrimgeour's capture. We didn't get to see Voldemort break into the ministry of magic and capture and kill him.
Or from JKR website
quote:
Malfoy & Nott (Chamber of Secrets/Goblet of Fire)
I liked this scene so much I tried to use it twice; unfortunately, it didn't work in either place so I finally laid it to rest in one of the cardboard boxes where I keep all my old drafts, notes, electricity bills and chewing gum wrappers.
As in the case of Dean Thomas, I know much more about Theodore Nott than has ever appeared in the books. Raised by a very elderly widower and Death Eater father, Theodore is a clever loner who does not feel the need to join gangs, including Malfoy's.
However, in this scene Theodore's father (the same Nott who was badly injured in the closing chapters of 'Order of the Phoenix') goes to visit Lucius Malfoy to discuss Voldemort-related business and we see Draco and Theodore alone in the garden having a talk of their own. I really liked the scene, firstly because it showed the Malfoys' home, and the difference between the place where Draco has grown up and number four, Privet Drive; then because we rarely see Draco talking to anybody he considers a real equal, and he is forced to see Theodore as such, because Theodore is just as pure-blooded as he is, and somewhat cleverer. Together these two Death Eaters' sons discuss Dumbledore's regime at Hogwarts and Harry Potter, with all sorts of stories that the Death Eaters tell about how this baby boy survived the Dark Lord's attack.

Well, I mean...there were a couple of things that stuck out to me that made me less sympathetic toward Snape:
1) He was most certainly looking for trouble that day by the lake.
2) He called his one ally a racial slur when she charged over to defend him.
Was James a douche toward Snape? Sure. But it seems like they were back and forth with each other just based on what we know from both sides of the story. Snape and James undoubtedly had a schoolboy rivalry with one another because they liked the same girl and it escalated from there. The flashback makes Snape look sympathetic because two were ganging up against one. But then he says that crap to Lily and you all of a sudden don't really care what happens to Snape.

I'll give this a watch. I liked the first movie the most when it was showing them getting started.

You got all that from a two minute teaser? Just frick off and go bitch somewhere else.
This would hit a little harder if you didn’t have a post talking about how much heart and soul were poured into this just a couple of posts earlier.
As an HP fan, it looks OK. Some good and some bad. Outside of the obvious with Snape, Hagrid looks good, but sounds off. Too gentle and soft spoken. No good looks at Hogwarts. If the blonde kid is Malloy, he looks well cast. Would have loved to have heard a little from Hermione. All the kids are going to have to overcome the cemented mental picture of the previous cast. Not sold on Harry or Ron, but hopefully they nail it.
Dumbledore looked great. Definitely prefer his look to the later movie version.we will see how Lithgow does with a Brit accent. I do think the concern of casting that old is going to be an issue if this is a 15 year run to cover all books.
Olivander and what I assume was McGonnegal were OK, but the glimpse of each was too short to really judge. I hope they take the time to introduce s9me of the other Diagonal Alley characters like Fortescue.
Curious about the other kids like Seamus, Dean, Neville et al. Also, the rest of the Weasley clan; seems like there was just a brief shot of Molly.
I want it to be good, but I have some reservations. I was really dubious about Fallout, and to me Amazon has knocked that outta the park. Maybe HBO will do the same.
