Hasn't been in a movie since Welcome to Mooseport in 2004

Probably the worst last film to such a stellar career

This is a photo of him from 2021

One of my favorite actors. I am assuming you mean 2021?

Love this Hoosiers anecdote from the director

quote:

"There's a scene in the montage where Hickory starts winning, and there's a shot of Dennis Hopper. The camera's across the floor, and it's shooting towards the Hickory bench, and you've got music going. And you see Hopper and Hackman sitting there, and you see Dennis kind of laugh and slap his leg. That was a reaction, and I didn't find this out until just a couple year before Dennis passed. He finally told me, 'Don't you know what happened there? Hackman said to me, 'Dennis, I hope you've invested well, because we'll never work again after this film.' He had no belief in that movie, or me, at the time."/

So much greatness but my favorite role is Little Bill, specifically the monologue with the biographer.

… “Hot, ain’t it?”

My CSB, the night I went to see Unforgiven in the theatre, I saw and met Gene Hackman at the theatre. He was in Memphis filming The Firm and I guess was doing something promotional at the theatre in Germantown (maybe he was just catching a flick himself). That night I had a dream I was in a Western and Gene Hackman shot me out of a tree then came and stood over me to finish me off like Clint did to him in Unforgiven

What an outstanding actor.

From gruff protagonists (French Connection) to lovable antagonists (Lex Luther) and things as different as his role in Unforgiven to Bonnie and Clyde, The Conversation, The Firm, Mississippi Burning, Get Shorty, The Birdcage, The Royal Tenenbaums and the list goes on - he elevated every single film he was in.

Royal: "I'm the one that failed them! Or, anyway, it's nobody's fault."
Ethel: "What didn't you give a damn about us, Royal? Why didn't you care?"
Royal: "I don't know. I'm ashamed of myself. I'll tell you one thing, though. You got more grit, fire, and guts than any woman I ever met."
Perfectly captured the charming and manipulative character of Royal Tenenbaum.

That, and, "I'm sorry for your loss. Your mother was a terribly attractive woman."

In his prime, I always wanted to see him fight Bryan Dennehy.
