Didn't like the cancer storyline, but I get why they did it. But wouldn't she also want her daughter and grandchild to be with her on a trip like that where she isn't coming home? I guess she was always cold with DJ, but...

That was one of my first questions. Like did you even tell DJ what's going on?

The cancer plot and Jimmy/Kayla taking over Latitude felt rushed. Didn’t ruin it for me but I expected a bit more. Still a very good season and a nice way to finish a great comedy.

As it happened, and Deborah said goodnight to Ava in Paris as they smoke looking at the Eiffel Tower, I thought Deborah was gonna die in her sleep and then Ava is sitting there waiting for her to wake up with her treatment options.. glad I was wrong with that one

I thought Deborah was going to leave her at the restaurant so Ava wouldn’t try and stop her.

There could definitely be a spinoff with the new agency and the new show.

They hinted at the cancer plot when she snuck away to have the lump removed earlier in the season. I did question about not telling DJ but I could also see where DJ would also probably try to talk her out of it and she would avoid that.

I thought the actor playing Jimmy did a great job conveying that emotion when he had to tell Ava he knew.

There were some great moments though and I’m glad they ended it with her deciding to keep going. At the end of the day it’s a love story between Ava and Deborah, just not in the romantic sense.

And I absolutely need a Jimmy/Kayla/Randi spinoff. Randi low key cracks me up to no end.

Great ending to the show. I thought they wrapped it up nicely without it going too dark with her dying.

Seeing Randi playing the same character on Rooster cracks me up.

thats what i said. They went from her getting her own casino and comedy room dedicated to telling Ava shes dying and on a final trip.

I really like her agent and I might be the only one, but Kayla drove me insane and was so cringe. Nobody acts like that.

It was a great under the radar comedy had a great run. Im really glad I watched it

Finished it last night. Wrapped the show up nicely. That was a very fun 5 seasons of television with a lot of highlights.

Jimmy and Kayla were the highlights again of this season, but that's been true for 2-3 seasons now. Legit thought I was going to wake the Mrs. up laughing when they were talking to the permit office lady and they all started doing the Xena "Yeeyeeyeeyeeyee!" shout together

Throughout the finale when they were making it seem like Deb was going to kill herself I couldn't help but think I guess they are just going to ignore the fact that Deborah has an actual daughter. Obviously DJ is not crucial to the story and not much of a complaint but it just kind of took you out of the realistic aspect of it,

Whew… I teared up when Ava told her “ please don’t leave me”

Hannah is actually a really good actress.. she conveys emotion and heartbreak better than a lot of people and it seems real and genuine

Same. I've said it for years in the Hacks threads that Ava is a legit good actress. Very good with emotions.

I hated Ava until last season and now I enjoy her. Especially after seeing her great rack. I feel like she knows her place now

Showed her rack back in season one. In almost every season actually.

I'd probably disagree with the "she knows her place now" sentiment though. I've always found Ava to be the funnier of the two out of her and Deb but more so when she was a contrarian to Deb. For the longest it was Boomer vs Gen Z and it was back and forth but for all of this season it's been Ava's influence that has won over. Deb had pretty much just become an older Gen Z. Deb no longer pushed back on Ava's overly sensitive opinions and just over the course of the show it was certainly more of Deborah learning how the world is now over Ava knowing her place.

Was legit surprised that Deb had hands as big as Ava's, that as one of my favorite running jokes. After the credits they showed that picture of Ava as a kid with the enormous hands and it was legit creepy

TIL he's the co-creator of the show and credited as a writer on every episode.

Yeah, I know. If you haven't had the opportunity to watch the After Show clips on HBO Max they're pretty great with all three writers/producers.

He is also married to one of the other co-creators. Based on his character in the show and his interviews, I was more than a little surprised to see she was a woman.

Same - just like Eric Stonestreet after watching 11 seasons of Modern Family. It cracks me up when I see him on sports shows talking about his extreme Chiefs Fandom and his wife and kids.
