i hope Qyburn crafts Jaime a new, golden hand capable of grasping...meaning he can hold/wield a sword again (surely not as good as new, but better than the dummy hand he has now). this way we'll get to see him be effective vs the army of the dead next season. Side effects include the capability to choke the life out of your twin sister and mild to severe prophecy fulfillment.

If Jamie gets a fully functional hand I will have to finish this season without pants.

it's a lot of names

When I was about halfway through with the whole set, so somewhere around A Storm of Swords, Chapter 40, I started to actually notice how many names the fat man drops. A solid 30% of the "culture" of ASOIAF, particularly the Westerosi, is namedropping. So and so did this. "Ser Badass killed Lord frickley in Prince Syphylys's rebellion" or whatever. Over and over. Probably thousands of references when you add them all up.

Now, I get that he's creating this whole infrastructure of names, bannermen, events and tying everything to these key houses and key conflicts, but it gets numbing at times.

Yeah the books which I read storm of swords in 2 days take longer to read because you're constantly flipping to the dictionary in the back any time a name is dropped

And he finally gets out of the friend zone with Dany.

Best name drop was probably ole Wun Wun the giant. Wun Wun = 11 = Phil Simms of the New York Giants, one of GRRM's favorite teams. And the Southern lord he smashed had a sigil which was the Dallas Cowboys blue star . And IIRC that lord was named after one of GRM's buddies who was a big Cowboys fan.

This one is pretty good:

quote:

The galley was also where the ship's books were kept... the fourth and final volume of The Life of the Triarch Belicho, a famous Volantene patriot whose unbroken succession of conquests and triumphs ended rather abruptly when he was eaten by giants.

No wonder he doesn't have to actually write the books anymore

What's the likelihood Varys knows Jon's true lineage? Him being the Master of Spies for the Mad King. He must have know that Rheagar left the 2 Kings Guard to protect Lyanna. He knew Ned Stark was an honerable man and would be the last person to have a baby out of wedlock yet he comes home with baby shortly after seeing his sister. Not to hard for him to piece it together.

I still believe the only (possibly) living people who know are:

Howland Reed
Wylla
Bran
Potentially Meera Reed

Between his access working for the Mad King like you said and the mystery surrounding Jon's origin, it does seem like the kind of mystery Varys would want to figure out. Even if it was only to find out what kind of woman tempted the honorable Ned Stark.

mean we have to find out the greyscale-afflicted people have some immunity or power that will be useful, right?

And Sam figures out how to infect AND arrest greyscale?
A vaccine?

ETA: if your quote is a spoiler so help me...This is why I posted this here and not the crackpot or any other GOT thread, cuz the season is short and full of fricking spoilers

...and I refuse to cheat myself this time.

There were also servants who were taking care of Lyanna. I don't think anyone told Varys directly but it's something he could figure out.

Euron got cut like 30 times fighting the sand snakes (who always poison their spears)

$20.00 says he is never sick or poisoned from those wounds during the remainder of the season.
