but i'm pretty sure grey worm is going to bite it this season and the scene was included to give it some impact...it won't work, but that's what I suspect.
Yeah - they're starting to telegraph things - Yara has a fling with Mama, then bites it. Now Grey Worm seals the one-sided deal with ole girl and then looks to bite it at Casterly Rock.
I would bet with you on that one.

What I don't get is when they waste precious frames on stories that are completely alien to the source material AND don't advance the narrative. There is little reason to develop either Grey Worm or Missandei's character. They're extensions of Daenerys - and little more.
I completely disagree. They are a microcosm of the war to come. They are common people, former slaves. They aren't just extensions of Dany. They are possibly who she is fighting for.
Notice Jamie approached Tarly and appealed to his nobility. "Do you really want savages in Westeros?" kind of talk.
Yet when Varys talked to Dany about his loyalty, he said he has no blind loyalty to rulers but to the people, the common person. People like Grey Worm and Missandei.
So you have the love of Grey Worm and Missandei. They were both slaves. Now they have lives of their own. They have as much at stake in the upcoming war than anyone else. They are the common people Varys speaks of.
And, of course HBO adds some oral sex and fantastic tits to sweeten the pot.
Will the outcome of the war change whether they are in love or not? No, but their relationship adds depth to the theme.
Don't let it bother you. One of them is guaranteed to die now.

The pseudo-sex will likely compromise Grey Worm at some key point in the battle. He'll either get distracted by thoughts of Missandei or have a critical tongue cramp.

that scene was included for 1 of 2 things
either one or both die and they want to give it weight or one of them makes a choice with huge ramifications and they're establishing motivation.
that chick is a smoke show so I won't complain.

The kick of it is - the girl attendants were ALL OVER Dany in the novels, but after the first season or two, when little miss stuck up wanted to stop with the nude, they had to shift that around a bit. So, in a way, this was GW pitchlicking.

Everyone assumes Sam will be successful but what if he isn't? I thought it was interesting that the archmaester said Jorah would be in his right mind for another 6 months or so. They're keeping him around for some reason, and a stone skinned Jorah Mormont is probably more useful than normal Jorah Mormont in a war. They certainly don't need Jorah the advisor, Dany has plenty of advisors.

Not a bad gig if you can get it. Of course, there is an increased risk of mouth cancer.

I mean we have to find out the greyscale-afflicted people have some immunity or power that will be useful, right?
The only other thing I can think of is Sam needing an escort to relay important info to someone, and Jorah will be that escort.

I'm kind of pissed that the maester who brought The Mountain back from certain death and turned him into some sort of immortal demon couldn't somehow find a way to give Jamie some kind of badass multi-tool retractable hand.

There are enough pages devoted to it in the novels that I am open to this possibility. Because of its association with the Valyrian peninsula, could be dragon related. Since it is rare in Westeros, could have significance with the coming War for the Dawn.
How would that manifest itself in the show? Sam keeps studying a little while, finds something and when he and Jorah show up in Dragonstone, the Greyscale becomes a plot device to use in Dany's favor, but at Jorah's sacrifice?

That would be really cool.

As the Griffs are absent in the show, I've been assuming that's all a cul-de-sac, at best, as well as much or all of the Blackfyre conspiracy outside of Varys.
We skipped all (most) of Jorah being Tyrion's trained bear in bondage - so, we could loop back to Jorah filling whatever role Old Griff would have.

The only thing that keeps me from thinking it's something huge is who has it in the books. I don't think they'd give something crucial to Danny's success to Jon Connington. I don't see him ever finding a way to make it into Danny's inner circle.
Posted on 7/26/17 at 12:47 pm to SabiDojo
He was or is trying to devise a way to grow one. I can't remember if that's books or tv

Well, we're running out of hours on this. Whatever it is, it's likely to be a one-shot weapon. I'm just spitballing at this point.

of a handful of devlopments to the story, house tarly is involved in 3 of them.
hoster tarly and his choice of alliances
sam treating jorah
sam learning of the obsidian mines.
other than that the only thing that's started moving or happened that we didn't know about before the season started was euron's attack on yara's fleet, mellisandre reappearing and arranging the meeting of jon snow and daeny...but even that hasn't materialized. the whole jon portion of the episode was him debating to go...i'm already tired of seeing jon just standing around court in winterfell

I don't hate Greyworm or Missandei as characters, but they are both incredibly bland and boring. Their storyline together is as bad as Dorne IMO and detracts from everything else that is going on right now. I sure as hell hope this isn't a storyline that they drag into season 8. They wasted time on that bullshite scene and deleted a scene that Jon was supposed to have with Ghost instead.
