Almost. He refused to marry someone for family gain then mused that since the family sigil is a fish then that must make him the "black fish" (instead of "black sheep") of the family.

Pretty much with bard said- I think that it was his way of telling Catelyn that what Robb didn't was that big of a deal, since she was so worried.

I find it interesting that in this point of the story how the nephews rule over their uncles. Joffery is Jamie's & Tyrion's king. Edmure Tully is Lord of his uncle Blackfish, but his nephew is his King.

This thread is now for the entire season.

Who would have thought that of all the main GoT threads created this week, this one had the least bitching in it.

There is close to 7K posts on the first page. Nothing like it. The most polarizing and best show in history.

Frequent occurrence in royal families, especially when the king dies young and especially when the "major families" all have their own "king."

What about the red woman? She suggests that she'll be able to bang other men who have Baratheon blood, but the blacksmith is the only other person we know of who has Baratheon blood.

Technically didn't she say king's blood? We can't completely rule out that other Baratheon bastards survived or that there aren't other potential sources of king's blood. There were 5 kings at one point, though I'm not sure if they'd work for her purposes.

I think that is where she is going. One of the previews shows her with Thoros and Beric (and hence Gendry)

Is this good or bad news for Gendry?

He's about to get some very strange.

I thought in the books she leached the Baratheon bastard's blood. Then wanted to sacrifice him to the red Gods and Davos intervened and that's why he ended up in the cells.

I dont believe the full potential of king's blood has been explored yet on the show, just the birthing of shadow babies from sex with the king.

nope i remembered too and i'm an illiterate. but he's (gendry) the only one i know of.

speaking of being illiterate, i accidentally clicked on the reader's thread. in there, they posted (i'm not going to spoil anything, you can keep reading) youtube vids of what i think is the DVD special features of season 1 and 2. and damn they're fantastic. they are voiced by actors on the show in-character and give a good bit of exposition on the stories.

my question for book readers: is all this stuff like robert's rebellion, the rise of the targaryens, history of warlocks, the greyjoy rebellion, history of the houses etc. in the books?

or i guess i'm asking did the tv series skip these things or do they start from the same spot as the books chronologically? (maybe giving you this backstory during the story?)

very curious.

and to any tv watchers, i highly recommend them if you like more info around what's happening (and what's led up to what's happened). none of them spoil future events if you're caught up thru season 2. i think it enhances your understanding of the entire story. i don't think i'm done watching them all.

edit: however if you're the type of person who doesn't want anything explicitly stated in just the show itself and don't watch previews and such, then i guess i don't have to tell you not to seek them out.

yes but those videos are paraphrased versions pieced together from many different chapters

the tv series can't cover the entire backstory effectively so they allude to them as much as needed to tell the current story

Yes most is in the books. Youu get a lot of it from dreams and thoughts that are not easy to flesh out on television.

Some of it is discoverd in other Short stories set in Westeros (Dunk and EGG tales).
