They do have both the Nature and Nurture sides covered.

I see your point. I think I am used to seeing things through my POV and not the Westeros way. GoT culture doesn't seem to use wills like we do if we want to designate heirs or prevent someone from inheriting. Still, the whole piggy thing was harsh.

How do women play into the rules of succession in Westeros? Can Sansa inherit Winterfell if the boys are dead or would she be more of a symbolic key in getting the people of the North to accept a new lord?

Depends on the kingdom, some go with the oldest child, others oldest male child, some forbid females all together.

she would be the lady of winterfell

Sansa is marrying a person they're at war with and is still basically a prisoner. Wouldn't be her.

Yeah, I know.
Have you already forgotten the random OT thread? Yes, something told me not to Google that quote in the "last words" thread, but I didn't recognize it, so I did it anyway.
But, like I said, even though I know the spoiler, I have no idea how it's going to happen. Obviously, "A" has reasons not to do it, but I'm pretty sure I know why he'll want to.
The Cersei/Loras issue is the one that I wonder about. If Loras was bored and uncomfortable around Sansa, Cersei will rip his nuts off. Jaime will arrive at KL in the next episode or the one after. We'll see if he really loves Brienne or if he will really try to kill Loras, though having no hand would seriously hinder his ability to do so.

Well, Tyrion. He's married to Sansa and if and when he has a kid from her, he cements his rule. If Robb dies, Tyrion will be Lord of Winterfell.
Granted, if Robb were to disinherit her, that's another matter entirely, but he hasn't done that. Disinheriting Sansa would be a big deal though since everyone else in the Seven Kingdoms thinks that Arya Stark is also dead, and this doesn't leave an heir.

I figured his unborn child & his mother would have better claims than a younger sister.

quote:That brings up an interesting point. If the Honeypot theory is correct, and Robb dies, even if his wife is a spy, she's still legally married to him and their child is still the heir of Winterfell. How would that play out?

Well, assuming Bran can prove to the world that he's alive, it would go to him and then Rickon before Robb's offspring. BUT, if they're still presumed dead, does Winterfell go to Robb's child or does Sansa become the Lady of Winterfell?
Nobel lineage is too confusing; that's why I support fascism.

Robb's kid (if male) would be the heir to Winterfell before Bran or Rickon. The eldest child's child/children have priority before their uncles/aunts.

As far as most people know with Bran and Rickon dead rule of Winterfell and the north goes in this order: Robb, male child of Robb, Sansa, Arya.
With Bran and Rickon alive it is this: Robb, male child of Robb, Bran, Rickon, Sansa, Arya
Of course, if Robb were to name Jon Snow his heir or if a king were to legitimize Jon Snow (make him no longer a bastard), he follows Robb and Robb's male child in order.

Yeah, his kid would have priority over Sansa. The mother though wouldn't.
