They had camped right next to where the dragon fell, where they were when Aegon said he was still alive.
Aegon said he wanted to die as king with his dragon, so that's why they were there. Dragons and their riders have a kind of psychic connection so when Aegon went on his defiant rant, he woke the dragon.
Yeah, even if you aren't a book reader, this was telegraphed pretty heavily. He mentioned wanting to make his "last stand" near where his dragon fell. They also lingered pretty heavily over Sunfyre in the episode where Aegon visited the site of his "death." I think there was even some conversation in that scene about the dragon coming back or not seeming dead or some such.

she's clearly shows she's better at fighting civil wars than ruling and she knows it.
It's not about being morally gray or otherwise for me. She's just completely unlikable because of her personality and the way she handles situations.
I do think the actress makes it 10x worse though with her portrayal.

Might have something to do with the actress who I think overacts horribly.
Milly Aycock was so much better as the younger version. I get people change as they grow up but it’s like two completely different characters

Man I’m a huge pussy when it comes to the dragon fights, I hate seeing them get hurt
Count me in the group that thinks Sunfyre being alive is dumb as frick. So she just laid there for months with no food or water and magically popped up?? I get the whole Aegon being next to her thing but still

Well, they are magical creatures. And the body wasn't rotting, it just had burns. I imagine them being in eggs for hundreds of years and still being able to be hatched when put on flames doesn't bother people too much.

I was just thinking this. She seemed so much stronger and sure of herself when she was younger.

Yep. Now she's weak and I went from rooting for her to rooting against her.

It’s still horrendously idiotic that the biggest antagonist to the throne (and his dragon) would fall hundreds, if not thousands, of feet from the air, get burnt and crushed, and both still live. Then add the fact that his dragon magically comes back to life at the perfect time after “dying.” The storyline is just stupid.
Rhaenys should’ve burnt the Hightowers to hell and back when she had the chance at Aegon’s coronation but of course that would’ve made too much sense.

She had the protection of her father and wasn’t in charge of decisions.

Some good payoffs at end.
Is anyone else not really cheering for a particular “side” at this point? More like enjoying the overall and liking the things with particular characters.

I have to disagree, especially with the bold. I think it has been pretty well established that the connection the riders have with their dragons is somewhat magical, bordering on telepathic at times. Similar to Starks and their dire wolves. I don't see Sunfyre coming to Aegon's rescue as being any more unrealistic than Ghost coming to Jon's aid or Summer jumping in to save Bran. Also, it was clear Aegon knew Sunfyre was still alive.

So the dragon basically heals like Rocky’s species in project Hail Mary I guess.
Body shuts down completely while it heals and uses heat to heal bad stuff inside.
Amaze amaze amaze

Pretty much. There are now characters on both sides I like and really dislike. I was Team Black.
On Green, can't stand Alicent and Ormund. Liking Aegon more now from that side. Patch eye Aegon is not that bad.
On Black, like Daemon and Sea Snake. Dislike Rhaenyra and little counselor/lover whatever the hell her name is. She may be the worst character on the show. Cannot stand Rhaena. That is probably the worst character of the whole show. She is ridiculous. Horrible acting, she looks like she is trying to look like she is in shock all the time. It never changes. The look is frozen and always there. She is not nice to look at. I just can't stand her.

I'm cheering for the dragons. I want them to turn on the humans and burn them all.

This isn't book spoilers but just to clarify this really isn't the case with a dragon. There is a bond made obviously but nowhere in the lore does it say that a dragon can go months without eating or drinking, or breathing for that matter, and live. It's still needs to fall in the bounds of the reality of the world it exists in. Him showing up when Aegon is in need isn't a stretch but the fact that he was able to show up is the ridiculous part.
Rhaena and Daemon both specifically mentioned that the dragon was dead and decaying. You don't come back alive from the time frame the show had him laying there.
I'm glad Sunfyre is alive because that's true to the books but just the way they had him "dead" for so long was really really dumb and unbelievable. I guess they did it for a shocker moment but if you're going to do that don't give the audience 10 hints and have Aegon straight up say "He's still alive" if you want to shock the audience.
It's kind of a minor gripe honestly but when you make a list of all the stupid things the writers have wrote the list becomes pretty long and adds up to a big gripe.

Ormund might be my favorite character
Posted on 8/5/26 at 10:48 am to Bert Macklin FBI
My god what a sad list
I don't really think there is a best character. Daemon if I had to choose solely based on the fact he was great in season 1. Ormund is by far the most interesting of season 3.
Aemond was on his way to being a good character until he showed up at Harrenhal, which is a place where good characters go to die.
White Worm and Alice Rivers being tied at the very bottom with Rhaena close behind.
I don't hate Helaena as much as you. I think she plays her role well.
You're forgetting Larys fwiw. I'd put him mid pack probably.
