the guy playing robb is kind of a shitty actor. but for all the hits they've made on casting it is no big deal.

The first season was fantastic. This one underwhelming overall unfortunately

Not really, this season hasn't followed the books as closely but it's been very well done overall. Tonight's episode was just fine as a setup episode. While I would have liked to see weasel soup and/or Arya slit a throat on the way out, it was still a good episode overall.

The only bad spot was the overly long Robb/Talisa crap.

i think the hardcore book guys are still adjusting to the changes. i mean it's easy to say it's not that but that is the clear cut difference from season one.

I'm a pretty hardcore book guy, been following the series since GOT came out in paperback way back in 96/97ish, but folks have to realize it's a different medium and simple being different doesn't make it crap.

Now if they wind up changing the entire structure and major plotlines that's one thing, but all they've done is make minor structural changes so far. But I;d agree with you that it seems that's what most the bitching is all about.

I certainly don't think it's any coincidence that the posters who are shitting on this season are the same who have complained pretty vocally about changes in the show. As I said, to each his own. I've really enjoyed this season and if this is the weakest episode all season (I can agree with that) then they're doing pretty damn good.

I also think they can make changes that will still wrap around to the end results we want to see. A good example is they way they've used Ros through tonight. People questioned her addition, she now has a purpose that ties into the book story lines.

Yeah, it's clearly pretty much the weakest episode of both seasons, but it was all setup for multiple plotlines. Last two should be pretty much balls to the wall.

Well the entire season has been a "setup" episode.

Season 1 did a better job of setting everything up yet keeping people interested throughout.

This season has really shown how difficult it is to give every storyline justice and have everyone understand what is going on AND keeping people interested the entire time. The next 2 episodes should be great but I would be lying if I didnt say the entire season has been underwhelming so far.

Well I always figured she'd replace alylaya or however the hell her name was spelled from the start, but even so she was a bit overused as the exposition whore. Her scenes were always the ones that seemed tacked on and clumsy to me, except for her scenes with Theon and the original one with Tyrion, those were all pretty good.

But yeah, the changes with Jon are leading to the same place, as are the Bran ones, and the Jamie ones. The Arya ones should wind up mostly the same as well.

Everythings leading to the same place and I'm all for them making adjustments to the book you can just see how the time frame of one hour is really cutting into the overall quality.

They could have added 5 minutes to the arya scene tonight and had a big production w the weasel soup and her killing someone all while escaping and it would have provided a much better scene. Things like that is what this season has been lacking IMO.

ETA I just now realized this, so are we not getting the "valar morghulis" scene with the gold coin???

With the exception of tonight's episode I've seen nothing but positive reviews from non book readers. I've personally enjoyed the hell out this season. But this is the way the book was as well, all the action is in the last 1/3. Half the first part of the book is travelogue with Arya, the other half is Tyrion running stuff in KL.

All the major action from the books has been in the tv show, minus Arya's soup and throat slitting being missing tonight.

Much of it will depend on how much you like ACOK anyway. ACOK is my favorite behind ASOS, where for a bunch of folks it's their least besides Feast.

Well, yeah clearly the show would be a hell of alot better with 5 more episodes, but what are you going to do about that? That's hardly the showrunners fault. Given that HBO will only let them have 10 episodes and a limited budget, it has been a very good translation from book to film.

For all the bitching and moaning, this is still the best book to film transfer I've ever seen, extremely faithful.

Watchmen and Shawshank are pretty close as well, but this has been moreso so far as far as hitting the right notes.

One of the preview blurbs from the last episode mentions him giving Arya a gift or something, so we should still see that. They haven't changed anything major like that so far, so I wouldn't expect it to now (hell, Sam and them found the dragonglass and horn tonight, and the horn has been pointless in the books at least up till now).

The only thing that disappoints me is the limited number of episodes. I thought with this being on TV vs Movies that they would be able to have more time to tell the story. If it would have been extended they could have held to the books more. It is a great series anyway.

By far the weakest episode of the series IMHO. The Rob/nurse storyline just seemed so forced and didn't flow at all for me. No chemistry, no natural progression. Just looked like two actors reading lines and following a script.

I thought the rest of the story lines were done OK but they just seemed to move at a snails pace.

The Arya/Jacquen stuff was good though even without the Weasel soup. Jamie and Brienne was good but way to brief. Tyrion being lovestruck I thought was poorly done. First performance by PD that. Struck me as subpar (though his scenes with Cersi and especially with Varys kind of made up for it). I wish they would have spent a few of the dollars they're saving for the battle on the crypts.
