That would blow Dany's face off. I don't think dragons can fly as fast as 166 mph.

The post I was responding to. He didn't necessarily argue it, but he posted a picture of Bran and the Night King side by side

The faces do favor at that angle, but..never thought it was bran under the makeup, or as "the character". The theory isn't a bad one, but I'd feel unsatisfied if it were that.

I know the guy made some calculations, but I think he's wrong. First IMO GRRM chose ravens because they're cooler than pigeons. IRL they'd have been using pigeons like the rest of mankind throughout history. Or perhaps in fictional Westeros ravens are as good or better than pigeons. "Racing Homing Pigeons have been clocked flying 92.5 mph average speed on a 400 mile race." LINK

If you go to Google Maps and pick a location in the North Sea around where Britain has that big cutout/bay on the east side, that's roughly where Dragon Stone would be. If you follow that all the way to Scotland and the northern most parts of the island, you're looking at between 350-400 miles as the crow flies. 400 miles/92.5 MPH = 4.3 Hours

Maybe I am off but I remember reading somewhere that Westeros is supposed to be the size of South America even though it roughly resembles the shape of the UK.

Edit: I'm not sure what that would do to these calculations but it would obviously be longer.

yeah, Westeros is much bigger than Britain. Here is an image of Westeros and Essos compared to Britain and the US.

Based on them being enormous. We're talking about a giant beast propelling itself with slow moving wings. I suppose they might learn to fall in a controlled way like a slower peregrine, but not propel themselves horizontally at break neck speeds like a swift.

Anyway. That's not really my primary complaint about this episode. My complaint is the whole episode was one big deus ex maguffin.

Has anyone seen the theory about Jon's sword Longclaw opening it's eyes when he gets out of the water? Looks like it was just the way the camera was filming but I was curious if anyone else had some different views on it.

Read an interview at Watchers on The Wall with the director where he was asked about that and he said there was no intention to show anything with that. The interviewer suggested it might have been water splashing on the pommel from Jon coming out of the water and he said basically "yeah, lets go with that"

I'm almost positive it was just the reflection of Jon getting out of the water.

It's possible, but with Dany grabbing onto their back, no. It would blow her face off after being on them for 6-7 hours.

not if her skin has been case-hardened

Alternatively, the dragon may be creating a wind-break due to anatomy and posture so she's not subjected to the full brunt.

Alternatively, this is a fantasy story with non-existent creatures, a girl who can survive sitting inside a bonfire, another one who can cut someone's face off and use it to speak in their voice, and several dudes who have been resurrected. I don't think hard science truly applies here.

No it would not, she lays flat against him when she flies top speeds.

It's not quite that simple from a physics standpoint. She would still be pounded with winds, and winter winds at that.

Plus unless the dragons have engines on their wings, I don't see how it's physically possible that they could horizontally fly that fast. In a dive, sure, but just flying?

A scene from Jackass on what Dany would be experiencing for hours if a dragon were able to achieve that speed: LINK

When they posted the pictures of Dany/Tyrion near the dragons with Dany in her Hoth Battle Gear, I almost made a comment about how she was dressed, but then I realized that reveals where she is going and even though that seems like it should be obvious, nobody else made a comment about it so these things aren't as obvious as they appear in hindsight. I know I probably wouldn't have picked up on it if I hadn't gotten spoiled.

I almost did that too, after somebody commented on her finally wearing white.
I was going to say she's wearing fur, and I doubt she was going to settle for a black bear pelt, not her style.

Realistically, there's basically no way she can safely ride a dragon. She for sure would have died when Bronn hit the dragon with an arrow.
