Had a little help from a dude with a flaming sword.

The first men and the COTF defeated the others. I don't recall if they mention how they defeated them. The COTF and the first men reached a truce, and the land north of the wall would belong to the COTF.
According to the World of Ice & Fire book, the COTF and the First Men fought for hundreds of years, until they came to peace terms which were hashed out on the Isle of Faces. The terms were that the First Men would get all of the open spaces in Westeros, and the COTF would get the deep wooded areas.
It was some time after this pact that the Long Night came with the Others. How the Long Night came to an end is a matter of legend. But in the North they tell of a last hero who sought out the COTF for help. Everyone with him died, but he alone reached the COTF despite the efforts of the Others. All of the Northern tales agree that this was the turning point. The COTF and the first Night's Watch banded together to win the Battle of the Dawn, which sent the Others fleeing to the icy north. This was supposedly some 6,000 to 8,000 years in the past.
The First Men and the COTF supposedly lived in peace until the Andels came to Westeros. The Andels basically conquered the First Men, and began wiping out the COTF all the way to the Neck. The Andels were never able to conquer past the Neck, so the theory is that the COTF that survived being slaughtered by the Andels ended up probably just heading as far north as they could get. The one caveat is that there could still be a population of COTF at the Isle of Faces since the Andels were never able to defeat the green men, so the could still be protecting a population there.

Are we allowed to talk about the E7 trailer in here? I paused each part of it and caught on to a lot that's in it.

Because of the bitches just bump the spoiler thread

Anything officially released by HBO is fair game. TMZ is not, as a poster earlier seemed to think.

Since when are trailers off limits in this thread?

I didn't watch the trailers, but I know that's my problem, not the board's in general. Talk about anything released by HBO, I'm fine with it, I just don't want a direct reply when my theories are directly contradicted by the trailer.

All HBO released content is fair game in this thread. That has always been the rule in this thread.

That's being too picky

Hit us with what you've gleaned from the trailer milady.
I know that one thing that stuck out to me is that Sansa & Jon visit House Mormont and House Glover. Those are good houses to start with when trying to start your Stark army.

So, I'm not going to read any of this thread because I'm only on episode 4, but, is it just me or is this the best season since season 1? They seem to be more focused on portraying good story lines and dialogue and less about shock value this season. I haven't been this interested in the characters since season 1.

Off to the best start. The first episode did nothing, but other than that it's been solid. Its up there for sure.

I agree with you but a lot of that is because we have been Hodors with a lot of the information. Once the next book is released, then this season will get torn apart in hindsight. I am still not happy that they have basically scrapped Dorne and the Iron Islands has been useless to this point. They weren't great in the books but they were solid stories that could have been told.

Do you know how to spell the word "white"?
I thought it was spelled "wight" . i was using "white" before, but I thought book readers were spelling it "wight". Guess its white then.

So, here's my question. Dany wants to take the Dothraki to Westeros and let them "tear down the stone houses"... Does she not realize that they'll be wanting to tear down the castles that her family and their allies built? I mean, good look keeping the loyal nobles on your side when you let a bunch of nomads wreck their shite.
Also, I don't see the Dothraki fairing too well in the North during winter.

And it'll a little difficult for them to kill those men in iron suits with freaking arakhs, which are slashing weapons that aren't going to cut through armor. Not to mention that the Dothraki believe wearing armor is cowardly, so the armies of Westeros won't have the same problem.
