Jon is a Targ.

I'm curious that if he does give up the Night's Watch and takes a name, if he will be Jon Stark or Jon Targaryon. I really can't see him taking up the Targ mantle under any circumstance.

I think Rickon only exists to keep the Stark name alive through the male line.

Agreed, that is obviously his purpose. "There will always be a Stark in Winterfell."

Well unless they can prove that Lyanna and Rheagar got married, he'd still be a bastard

Although he was born in Dorne so maybe he's Jon Sand I'm not sure how the bastard names work

I think it's based on the supposed father, not the location of birth. I can't remember where Jon is said by Ned to have been born, but I don't think it was in the North.

I've been pushing the possibility of a Lady Sansaheart character for a couple of episodes now. It would be nice to be right once in a while.

I've been on the Sansa Stoneheart theory since the beginning so I won't stop now. From that pick she's either LSH or a Sith lord.

I don't want her to get cut up though. I still want Beric/Thoros to show up again, but that would have to mean they're bringing someone back to life.

I don't think they were in the show just for Hodors to know that Mel can bring Jon back

Dondarrions are related to Targayrens if that means something

It's the region
Each of the nine constituent regions of the Seven Kingdoms have bastard surnames decreed by custom. Bastards with a high-born parent are given these surnames to hold them apart from their fathers' houses. The parents may give a bastard a different surname if they wish, e.g. Tyrion Tanner. Bastards with no known relation to a noble house have no surname, like other smallfolk.

Region

Surname

Example Character

Reach Flowers Ser Robert Flowers
Westerlands Hill Joy Hill
Iron Islands Pyke Wex Pyke
Riverlands Rivers Walder Rivers
Dorne Sand Nymeria Sand
North Snow Jon Snow
Vale Stone Mya Stone
Stormlands Storm Ser Rolland Storm
Crownlands Waters Aurane Waters

As the surname is applied depending on the region where the bastard is raised, bastards who are half-siblings may have different surnames. For example, Robert Baratheon's eldest bastard, born in the Vale, is called Mya Stone while his bastard from the Stormlands is called Edric Storm.

I think it's the region that the father is from. I don't think Ned claimed that Jon was born in the North.

That's from Westeros wiki.

It says where they are raised. So I guess you could be born on Bear Island but raised in Dorne, and you'd be a Sand.

It's a sneaky smart way for GRRM to say your from anywhere and everywhere if you're a bastard

That makes sense. I just figured that it was basically a way of identifying the cheating lord, rather than geographically place the bastard. Throughout the story, the bastards seem to be a chain around the necks of those who fathered them.

yep I agree. Gendry is a good example. If anything he's referred to as a Baratheon and not Hill, Storm, Waters, etc.

Not me. He sent Davos off, to not procure horses and men. He sent him off so he wouldn't have to kill him. Davos wouldn't allowed that to happen.

it wouldn't surprise me to see Ramsey betray his father, and allow Stannis's army to win in exchange for being named the Ward of the North with Sansa if he bows to Stannis.

An interesting scenario. The only problem I have with it is this: why would Ramsay volunteer to go on such a risky sabotage mission, when he could have just stayed in Winterfell and let events play out without risking his skin?

Roose's fat Frey wife gives birth, and Sansa turns out to be right that Roose names that kid heir to Winterfell (or she doesn't give birth, but Roose lets him in on what's up once she does).

Or heck, knowing Ramsey, Roose could just say something that sets him off. The guy is kind of a psychopath.

Why? His whole existence will be altered with the revelation of his father and mother. He obviously will keep the traits his uncle taught him like being an honorable man.

I believe Jon will find out he is a Targ/Stark and still willingly keep the name Jon Snow because the name helped motivate him to become an asskicker.
