An argument could be made that he figured Shireen and the rest of Stannis's forces would perish in the snow and vs the Boltons, and that's why he gave a heart felt goodbye, because he had to leave and thought she might be dead soon

I thought I remember Mel saying red priest have certain powers. like her's are visions and glamour.

The tats are stupid but certainly wouldn't be a deal-breaker. I'd hit her character from Dredd too.
