question...when was the last episode we saw Stannis? Was it when he was leaving the Iron Bank of Bravos? I don't really remember him after that

He's still the king's son. He has to be important down the line.
His storyline is over IMO.
There are too many other powerful people that have a claim to the throne. No one even knows who Gendry is aside from the Lannisters, Arya Stark, and now Stannis and his crew.
And none of those people wouldn't support his claim. I doubt we see his face on screen again.

If we do it will be as a love interest for Arya. Not as a major player

That's what they said about Sansa. Just wait for gendrys true place on the iron throne as blackbird and you will see what kind of game he has.

At the rate this show is going it feels like all the end game players will be the ones under 30 so who knows if Gendry will be important.

If that many people get killed, no one will give a shite about bloodlines. When shite hits the fan that hard, they will find a true leader with a cause to support. Gendry is not that.
When he was picked up by the red lady she said "you will make kings rise and fall" or something to that effect. That was his role on the show.

Still have no idea why they thought Baylon Greyjoy was some big swinging dick and used a leach on him.

How would they know? He didn't run away until they were over the wall.

Well he left on a suicide mission and was the only one to come back in a crows outfit. Unless the wildlings are terrible at context clues I'd say there's a poor chance of them buying it

Just finished reading the thread. It appears to me that the problem people had with this episode is the exact opposite problem they have with many other episodes. Too much focus on one thing. I'd wager if it were an episode devoted to KL the reaction would be different from most people though.
Anyway, my thoughts:
1. Seeing Sam step up a bit was cool.
2. Loved all the dialogue in the episode. Especially Aemon's talk with Sam and Alliser's battle speech.
3. I thought it was pretty heartbreaking to have Jon and Ygritte meet up and both smile at each other then to have her shot through the heart immediately. GoT though..
4. This episode basically confirmed that Jon will be Lord Commander of the NW.
5. I don't believe Jon is going to even try to kill Mance. He has to know there is zero chance of that happening. I think he's going to take a diplomatic approach to it. He knows Mance united the wildlings under the idea that they were all going to die if they stayed in the north. I believe Jon is going to somehow bring both sides all together. The wildlings are wildlings though so idk.
Overall I thought it was a great episode. Like I said earlier, I enjoyed it more than Blackwater but it's really just another phenomenal GoT episode like all the others.
Anyways boys this is my last post in the Hodor Thread. I already know some of what's going to happen in the finale so I don't even wanna be discussing it with any of you for fear of spoiling something. Got the books downloaded on the kindle and I'm probably gonna start them tonight while the power is out in my hotel. So long Hodors.

I did not dislike the episode but am confused by the geography. I assume that the tunnel/gate run through the wall and that, through it, one from the north can access the south and vice versa. The whole "Castle Black" and "Wall" backstory is to prevent the wildlings, et al. from breaching the barrier and gain access to the south.
Where was Castle Black? In order for the wildling attack to make sense, Castle Black must have been located on the north side of the wall. Otherwise, why weren't the wildings scaling the huge wall, first, to get to it? But, wouldn't that have been a stupid place to put Castle Black? Shouldn't it be on the south side of the wall? If so, why did ANY of the wildling forces attempt to take the wall? They all should have scaled the Castle Black location. None of them would have had burning oil dumped on them.
I guess there's an explanation. But, I can't figure it out. This perceived anomaly did not ruin the episode for me.

South of the Wall

No. The Castle is not the primary defense against wildlings/WWs/wights, etc. - The Wall itself is. The various castles along the wall are primarily to house/shelter the Night's Watch.

Not just anybody can scale The Wall - the groups that did are special operations types.

IMO...the problem most had with this episode was that it was mostly spectacle. What makes GoT so great is its combination of both spectacle and the story/characters involved in it. The Wall is probably in most people's bottom two story lines...you really only care about Jon and Sam, the rest of the Watch and Wildlings are faceless red...err black shirts. The battle itself looked amazing, especially for TV, but most people aren't nearly as invested in the Watch as they are the other characters in the show.
