I have never explored that angle but that would totally make sense as to why he seems to be everywhere and know all these secrets... Much easier to get information without leaks if your eavesdroppers can't talk since they are animals

The more I think about it the more obvious I think it is that he is a warg, and I can't believe I've never seen it suggested before

Really? How long did it take him? You don't know, we fast forwarded in time. We have no idea how much time elapsed.

I hope the future threads don't turn in to a bitch fest like this one every time the books and show don't sync exactly.

As for the Other being the night's king.... That is not at all a given. There is definitely room for questions.

it's been talked about in the crackpot, i'm pretty sure. He wargs into the old black cat Balerion several times, I suspect.

That was the Night's King. The show confirmed it. There's no question about it

Another question is, how is he going to get his lands and titles after taking his vows to the NW? How many people come back to their kingdom and are pardoned for breaking them?

So did they approve him taking the vows early or just letting a recruit go North of the wall? That is what I assumed upon watching.

No. It. Didn't.

It's already been changed.

what's really crazy, is that is Ned Stark had not beheaded the ranger in S1E1 then the entire show would have been different.

The guy knew of the Others before anyone else, yet was killed before he was fully debriefed.

Back in Season 1, Varys asks Ned about Bran after the fall...

Something like:

Ned: "He'll never walk again."

Varys: "But his mind is unharmed, yes?"

Ned: "Yes."

Varys: "When some doors close forever, others open."

There are several other clues in the books.

Like when Tyrion is talking to Illyrio about Varys and how in Essos Varys's little birds were called mice.

Then in a Jaime chapter in AFFC he talks about the search in the secret passages of the Red Keep and how some of them were too small for even children and they found a shitload of rats.

I don't see this thread as being a bitch fest at all. To me, there is rational (and sometimes humorous) discussison about the pros and cons of the episdoe. People have a variety of views and have expressed them pretty politely and coherently. It wouldn't be much fun if we all just came in a thread and agreed 100% with everthing in the episode.

The fact that he seemed to be the leader of the ritual and the one tasked with converting babies into Others, and it all took place in their crazy huge Ice City really suggests this guy is the Night's King.

It doesn't make sense for someone to write "Night's King" when they were supposed to write "White Walker" unless it really is the Nights King.

And there being 13 of them and him bring the 13th lord commander should all but confirm it for book readers

Because he was the 13th commander who reigned for 13 years, that means that the Night's King who was a Stark is now Ice Darth Maul?

Plausible, but I think that is the great other, the leader of the others. The one who brings dark where there is light.

eta

Watching the scene again reall quick. There is no "Ice city" they show a mountian with the northern lights in the background.

Then there is 10 spikes coming from the ground in what looks like a spot that was described near the frost fangs, yet this location is more likely in the land of always winter.

I don't see what the number of walkers at the ceremony has to do with the number of lord commanders for the Night's king. The number 13 is used multiple times in the book, if memory serves. Xaro sent 13 ships to entice Dany to leave for Westeros. Maybe he is the night's king.

I think that was a subtle hint to book readers.

The Great Other is a god like R'hllor. The Nights King is the leader of the Others
