I would say like 80 pages.

That's a really tough question honestly. The way the books are written is that every chapter is a POV of one of the characters, Jon, Danny, Sansa, ect...
So you could say every time they change characters in the show it's a chapter in the book. Although they mixed up and changed some stories, sped some stories up, added to them and stuff.
I would say every episode is like 100 pages but honestly I read the books on my phone so I don't even know how long they are in print

Where would I pick up the books, if I wanted to start directly after the Oathekeeper episode?
And would that be a large problem for me?

Well the story is all over the place honestly as far as how it's progressing compared to the books. So like where some characters are in the show may be where they are in the 4th book where as some characters are still in book 3. It can work like that since they are all off doing different things.

And then for Bran this never happened to him in the books so I dk what is going on there

The show is becoming more and more out of sync with the books chronologically. I'd just say start with the beginning and work your way through. You'll enjoy getting a feel for the history and mythos of Westoros best that way, IMHO.

The Other we seen tonight that changed the baby into an other is the Night's King. There is no question about it. The Great Other is the cold/ice rival to fire god R'hllor. Many theories about who this could be

As I said earlier, don't take anything as truth until you hear it from GRRM. Looks like HBO has already changed "the night's king" to "a walker".

I do understand that they need to expand on Bran's story to fill in while other parts catch up, but they don't have to show him every episode. We didn't see Arya at all tonight; it's ok to skip POVs sometimes.

I agree here. I loved his chapters so much because they were few and far between but once you did get one something really cool seemed to happen. They don't have to show him so much in the show, once every 3 episodes would be fine imo.

Agreed, but Bran's arc is very important IMO.

And we haven't seen Theon since E2. Curious how far they'll go with that storyline this season because he'll definitely be in S5 a lot.

so I haven't read the thread, but what is the consensus for this episode and all the changes?

pissed?
happy?
kinda cool?

I think it's kinda cool that I don't know exactly what is going to happen now.

Still waiting for Coldhands though...

I do too, but I wonder if the changes are going inevitably be too much and change the actual story.

I'd say the reactions are a mixed bag. But the posters here are definitely more open-minded and understanding to changes than the snobs on the Westeros.org forums.

Agreed. This is what I meant about changing Bran and JS stories. I realize there are going to be some changes to adapt the books to the screen. I have no problem with the Others scene last night. I just wonder why film/tv feel the need to make changes when they don't have to.

I think that's more because you look at people's post histories on here and it isn't GoT obsessed. People over there at the Westeros forums are those that have solely lived in this fantasy fiction world their whole lives.

We are more open and understanding because there is more to us than just fantasy fiction books/TV shows.

I'm curious about this now but lean to not liking it at all...

Just knowing that Bran is alive but North of the wall just seems odd and how that would change Jon's motivations and focus of defending the wall at all cost...
