The one comment I can add to this thread is: this show is LEGIT.
It has vastly exceeded my expectations for the show. It'll be a long, long wait until Season 2 in 2012.
Good thing we'll have another season of Boardwalk Empire in the fall to keep us sated.

I had to rent a cheap motel once or twice back when Rome was on.

I think the majority don't mind or even want a little more explanation of what was on the show.
We want an explanation of something when we ask for it. Not when you bookies feel like making comparisons to book vs show or wanna jibber jabber about so and so being your favorite character in book 2 or 3 or 4.
eta: what was the land of the dragons called? I want to change my location.

I just don't see why so many people are getting their panties in a twist whenever people who have read the books make comparisons between the two. If you read the books and are following the show, it is just difficult to not make comparisons.
And before my e-head is chopped off like Ned....I'm not talking about saying your favorite characters in future books or giving spoilers away. Let me be clear on that.

I think the issue is that sometimes those who are doing the comparing accidentally reveal something about the books that haven't been included in the show yet. I don't think anyone does it on purpose, it's just easier to avoid the issue coming up if the book discussion is left out/placed in another thread.

I agree. It makes no sense at all to me. If all you want is the show, then just watch the show. These people know there was a book first that had a pretty major following if they don't want to hear comparisons stay out of message boards. I don't even understand whats the big deal with mentioning favorite characters, I've seen dead characters mentioned a long with living.
There is absolutely nothing in this thread that someone who didnt read the book can find and learn when/if someone will die.

All kinds of shows have been based off of books/comics and people have been capable of just discussing the show in a thread about the show. Not sure what the problem is with this one.

I don't understand why people get all bent out of shape by someone saying they are pissed that the Targaryens dont have violet eyes, or whatever the gripe of the moment is.

this. thanks to the bookies I can already conclude that 3 of my favorite characters are NOT going to die in the season finale. Next season, there will be a bookie thread and a hbo thread. The bookies can go to their thread and make their comparisons and spoilery and nerd out all day long. In the HBO thread, those of us who are only interested in what happens on the show can discuss each episode and predict what we think will happen. The bookies can visit the HBOs but only to discuss our hatred for Joffrey.

because it's based on a nerd book and nerds can't resist showing us how much they know.

They're mad that they can't read.

I agree. Nothing that has not been covered in the show yet should be mentioned in the thread. I'm acually surprised next week's episode has not been spoiled yet, so the readers have had self control. The books provide insight into what a character is thinking at the time the do a certain thing in the show, and that is glossed over by TV. Things like Ned's head being taken with his own sword are major things, but you can't have all that cluttering up the show.
I guess you could give them pop up boxes like the old VH1 shows.

Here's a question for the people who haven't read the books but are avid fans of the show. WTF are you gonna do fo the next year until the new season starts? Will you read GoT? If you do will you stop there and wait until the new season so you can watch the show without it being "ruined" by knowing what happens?
