Tyrion slaying a mountain clansman with a friggin' shield was fairly bad-arse. And gruesome. Halfman! Halfman!

Excellent. Hope it remains popular. I'm really enjoying the series so far. That was a nasty spear wound Lord Stark took through the full length of his right thigh. Back then I doubt many would survive a wound like that.

Actual question for the thread from a non book reader here...why are Cersei and Jamie Lannister such conniving, vicious fricks? Their dad seems an ok fellow. At this point in the book, is he much more of an obvious evil schemer? I'm only wondering about the equivalent of halfway thru the book, please don't foreshadow how he turns out.

Tywin Lannister has yet to be introduced on the show, so not sure how you can draw any conclusions on him yet

We'll see how his recovery goes for this wound compared with the injury he had in the book (I won't say how his recovery went in the book to avoid potential spoilers). In the book he had a broken leg from his horse falling on him during the attack. The bone came through the skin so it was similar in a way to a spear piercing his leg. The spear may have also broken his leg so the result could be the same.

Wait seriously? Who's the older guy in the King's guard that was talking about his first kill with Robert, and telling Ned what a great fighter he was before the Loras/Mountain joust?

That was likely Ser Barristan Selmy, Lord Commander of the Kings Guard, aka Barristan the Bold.

The only Lannister in the King's Guard in Jaime Lannister, son of Tywin Lannister and brother to Cersei and Tyrian. Jaime is aka the Kingslayer as he killed the previous king, Aerys Targaryen, aka the Mad King.

Hope that helps

Yeah, thanks....I knew all that.

Ok well then I'm willing to bet Tyrwin will be a schemer when we meet him.

Yeah...I went a little overboard, but I had the appendix of the book handy to lay it all out for me.

Lord Tywin is a great character. Barristan the Bold is one of my favorites though, and he's been very well portrayed so far; (other than not really being introduced.)

Thanks to Books for that link, I hadn't take the time to look at all the characters casted already, and Tywin looks pretty much spot on from the books, well at least as close as I pictured him myself.

I thought Selmy was him at first.

The Kingsguard can father no children or inherit. We haven't seen Tywin yet.

I tried to be good and not post anything that remotely resembled a spoiler...

Charles Dance as Tywin is easily one of the best castings of the entire series so far. I mean, he was the fricking demon guy from The Golden Child

The Kingsguard is the Secret Service of this world. They are knights that protect the Royal Family. They wear the gold armor that Jaime is wearing, which I guess would lead to the confusion.

The Kingsguard are SUPPOSED to be the best skilled, the most renowned knights, and have the most honor. They take vows that they cannot father children or inherit lands.

Really? Good call. That would be awesome for the "Damn, that was the same actor/actress" thread.
