And Hank Hill is a decent man, and a caring father. He takes pride in his propane career and his lawn.

I didn’t realize this until rewatching it recently. In college a liked Hank but didn’t really “get” him. Watching it again in my 40’s and I feel like I have become Hank Hill.

maybe at times, but as i rewatch, the older i get the more i can respect her for being a really good mother.

Honestly the relationship between hank and peggy may be one of the most healthy relationships presented on tv still today but definitely at the time.

It's glorious.

Bobby, watching Luanne's male roommate shave his legs for bicycling: "So boys can shave there legs too... hmmm..."

Hank: "Peggy."

Peggy: "Bobby."

Bobby: "Sorry."

True enough. But I think Coach Taylor and Tami on Friday Night Lights win that prize.

I don't know. She is portrayed as outright petty and undermining. I do need to rewatch it, though.

Most sitcoms have the father figure being an idiot.

King of the Hill is the opposite. Hank has quirks and get into things at times, but the dude is a great role model and more times than not, right.

I have seen people point out over the years since that this is one of the main reasons that the show has stood the test of time and remained popular.

Hank Hill is a great, upstanding, competent, voice of reason MAN.

And that is refreshing to people.

This is the genius of Judge. Hank is the embodiment of the incapable father trope. It is set up from the very beginning when Hank needs a teenage girl to fix his truck. He is a seemingly good-hearted, incredibly naive man who fumbles and bumbles his way through life.

While present, he is still a deeply flawed father and oddly jealous of Bobby when he finds anything he is good at. Anyone that wants to argue this watch "Dances With Dogs" first and come back. Hank is a character who is loved for the 30 second redemption scene at the end of episodes. The Texas form of Homer Simpson.

I couldn't stand Peggy on my most recent re-watch. She is pretty damn awful.

Also, Luanne and Lucky will probably not be coming back

They have to fins a replacement voice actor for Luanne, she was a pretty key character. Wouldn't feel like the same show without her.

I love how well adjusted Bobby is as a human. The self-confidence that Peggy has instilled in Bobby ends up being a perfect counterbalance to Hank's inhibited personality.

Yep. He get's Hank's desire to be good at and passion for the things he likes but then gets Peggy's confidence and acceptance of himself, no matter how weird it may be, to do those things. It is a great combo to have honestly

I need an episode where they’re all standing around on the fence, drinking hard seltzer and commenting about them
