While an entertaining film with a fun premise, I fail to see how this movie garnered 16 Academy Award nominations. I give it a solid 7/10 rating but the only true standout scene for me was when Jack O'Connell's Remmick busted out "Rocky Road to Dublin" in his Irish brogue.

It was also perplexing to me. It was a fun film but that's about it

Yep. Since the Academy mandated the DEI criteria for films to be considered for the best picture award, I knew that Sinners would win a lot of awards. I enjoyed the movie, but I didn’t feel it was anything spectacular.

Thought it was very good. Did not think it was great. Somewhat interesting premise as a musical of vampire stuff, but it's just a vampire movie at the end. Nice appearance by Buddy Guy at the end, for sure. Far as awards, don't really know that there are enough well made movies to give nominations to.

As I once posted,

"I watched Sinners last night for free on HBO.

I liked it better the first time I saw it... when it was called From Dusk till Dawn"

Just casually glossing over MBJ's impressive performance as twins who both have very distinctive body language is certainly a choice.

I enjoyed the first half and thought the story of black twins that fought in WW1 then spent years working for the Chicago mob and returning to Jim Crow era South to open a bar was a cool set up for an interesting story. Then the vampires showed up and it became far less interesting.

Michael B. Jordan did a solid job as Stack and Smoke. However, I don't think it merited an Oscar.

I liked it more than you did. Which nominated movies or performances did you think were much better?

I haven't seen most of those and none of the ones that I saw was better than Sinners but I appreciate you omitting One Battle After Another. That movie was trash.

When the trailer came out, it looked like an interesting premise about spirituality and demons. Then it was just another vampire movie.

What does that mandate have to do with it do you think?

I'm big on blues history. Been playing guitar for 36 years. Only enjoyment was Buddy Guy at the end. Decent movie. Not scary

Playing twins is a played out acting gimmick like playing a retard.

The guy who played Candy on Bonanza won a zillion grammies for playing twins, one of whom WAS a retard, on All My Children.
