The movie started out strong but ended up stupid.
This is how I felt. I love stories about the old south. It’s a beautiful movie the way it captures the Mississippi Delta, but the ending kind of took me out of it.

From someone that loved the movie despite its faults. The third act completely fell apart.
In regards to awards, out of all the actors I though Delroy should've been the winner, but Sean Penn was great as Col. Lockjaw.
I agree with the awards for best cinematography, and best score. Out of 16 nominations they only took 4 home.

I fail to see how this movie garnered 16 Academy Award nominations

Think people might be missing this point, in addition to the fact that nominations are relative to a particular year, not past years. Sinners is a very good film, but Hwood ain't producing the number of great/interesting films like it has in the past. That might not be just Hwood's fault since the avg viewer probably can't take two steps without a cellphone in their face and doesn't understand a reference to this or that historical fact, but it's still the situation.

It was a solid entertaining movie.
That's it.
Nothing award worthy.

I like Sinners more than most on here; I thought it was legit awesome. Basically an updated (and black) take on From Dusk Till Dawn. But I thought it was really well done and a fun ride. And outside of one or two scenes it's pretty much all great.
That being said, being nominated for every Oscar imaginable is obviously hilarious.

Agreed I enjoyed it up until it became a vampire movie.
