Tommy Lee Jones cocking the hammer w/ his thumb in No Country For Old Men right before he goes into hotel room. So he was walking around w/ a 70 series Colt 1911 with one in the chamber and the hammer down? Or someone pulling a 1911 w/ the hammer down and pulling the trigger and firing. They don't work that way.

I remember the big zombie battle in an early season of the Walking Dead at the farm where Hershel was firing a shotgun that must have had 50 shells in it and the shotgun didn't recoil at all.
That was one was comically bad.
Also, the others in that episode drove back and forth over bumpy farm land and shot at zombies, often with one hand. Head shot every freaking time.
Compare that to the last two weeks when firing full-auto at a nearby targets rarely made contact.

1911's not being cocked & locked...hammer is always down like it's a regular DA pistol.

Have ya never read the news releases on real life NYC cops?

Being able to walk into a Wal-Mart and buy an automatic rifle with no background check or waiting period.

Collateral is another pretty good example of accurate firearm handling by characters who are supposed to be professional. (As with Heat, Collateral directed by Michael Mann who is a stickler for details like that - going all the way back to Miami Vice.)
Just another reason why Collateral is one of the better films of the 2000s.

What did he shoot the helicopter with? Was that not one of those rifles?

I don’t think it’s unusual. Was hunting with a guy last year that had a Ruger 1911 and he had one in the chamber and put the hammer back down, extra safety precaution.

Yeah its unusual and dangerous. Your hunting buddy is an idiot. You have to depress the trigger to let the hammer down and that 70's series is even more dangerous that way than newer model 1911's. If you want to drop a hammer w/ your thumber, get a decocker pistol.

bullshite, dipshit. It’s fine to have the hammer down while chambered 1911. It’s called “inertia safety”. Putting the hammer back down is personal preference even if some consider it dangerous. Depends on the expertise of the handler. Maybe he was an expert gunsmith for all we know, but it’s not uncommon to have the hammer back on a 1911.

Yeah that was the one he started with. There was one he uncovered and started shooting the helicopter. After his spotter got wrecked.

Ah, later he starts shooting the Barrett. Looks like it is jamming up on every shot?
Yup, just found this:

"I was the weapons coordinator on this film. The Barrett used was a real one firing blanks. After multiple strafing runs by the helicopter and the amount of dust and crap floating in the air from all the explosions, the gun did malfunction a few times on multiple takes. Unfortunately the way it was edited together made it seem like he was cocking it after every shot."

My ROTC had an M60 that didn't like blanks. We called it "Buffalo Rifle" -

I have learned to live with the cocking noise every time a Glock is pointed at someone. Kind of like when a cell phone is answered it beeps.
I enjoy the Walking Dead and pointing out the different firearms. But this season is just bad.
The tin roofing that stops bullets and the cars htat just spark when bullets hit them was over the top. I know it's the movoes and certain things happen for visual reasons, but it is out of hand. So much so that it lost its cool shoot out factor and moved into wow this is very bad kinda fake. I can see the strings tied to the space ship kinda bad
