Collateral is another pretty good example of accurate firearm handling by characters who are supposed to be professional. (As with Heat, Collateral directed by Michael Mann who is a stickler for details like that - going all the way back to Miami Vice.)

His snap shot of the alley guys is supposedly taught in FBI classes. I know our conceal carry instructor mentioned it.

Another Stranger Things one, this happened with the .22LR that Hopper gave Nancy, he loaded around in the chamber when he picked it up and then Nancy did it again when he gave it to her.

Every single show that has a semi-auto with a hammer and they cock it back dramatically..drives me fricking nuts. I'm pointing this gun at you and there is a round in the chamber and it's ready to fire...and let me manually cock back the hammer to make sure you know I mean business..gtfo.
EVEN WORSE...the semi-auto pistols with no external hammer also making the manual cocking sound. Unforgivable and takes me out of a show in a heartbeat

Most photos I see of Bond has his finger on the trigger when he’s not about to shoot.

Colin Farrell got it right in SWAT. They were probably coached by the real thing.

Im ok with a gun with a silencer making no noise in a movie. It just annoys me when a complicated plan hinges on the gun being silence. Because then i cant appreciate the plan...because it would have failed IRL the minute you shoot the gun.

Conversely, I notice (particularly in TWD) unsilenced weapons fired like a foot from another character's head. It's a wonder most of them aren't nearly deaf.

Shots inside cars (Scarface or Pulp Fiction) or in cramped spaces like in Donnie Brasco basement scene. Nobody is hearing shite for a couple days after something like that.

That's why it was unique to see in Cop Land, when they make Stallone deaf by discharging a Glock 9mm right by his ear and it ruptures his eardrum.

How about the sound a gun with a suppressor (silencer) makes? They make it seem silent, but really just knocks off 20 decibels or so.

What really gets me is how in movies, people hide behind furniture or the walls of their house...sitting or laying on the floor and that's supposed to be some protection...or they hide behind cars. It's only when they are visible in front of a window are they vulnerable to gunfire.

A 9mm can travel across the street through a house into another house and kill someone.

They've done tests with 10 sheets of dry-wall simulating 5 walls in a house and shot at them from 10 yards away and the 9mm round went through all 10 sheets and penetrated 9 inches of ballistics gelatin - thereby killing the person standing behind 5 walls in a house.

And they've done car tests, and the rounds go right through your car door.

My favorite is people jerking around like they are taking punches from the heavyweight boxing champion when they are shot yet the person firing the gun doesn't seem to have recoil at all.

Shockingly, of all shows, The Fosters had decent firearm control and proper technique in the two episodes where the police drew their sidearms. I've lost track of the number of movies and shows where they are clearing a building and soliders or police are constantly waving their weapons around in each other's faces with their fingers on the trigger.

Another petty pet peeve... every sniper has a laser sight on TV and movies so you can see they are aiming at a target.

True. A Sopranos episode as well. One of Tony’s crew kills a guy who picks him up at the airport. He gets out and holds his ear cursing.

this is the one I forgive the most, because movies have to have indoor shooting scenes. but yes, irl if you shoot indoors or in a vehicle, you're getting permanent hearing loss lol

Larry Vickers did a YouTube video on just how great Tom Cruise was at shooting from retention. Said it's the most realistic gun play he'd seen in a movie.

I wonder if this is something they missed in passing off to the editor. One of my favorite films is Grosse Pointe Blank. I would say that - overall - weapons handling was in line with "Hollywood" style, rather than realistic, although they did some good work at times. However, the lead (Cusack) "cocking" a Glock 17 when he heard someone at the door was just awful.

Number 1 for me is the amount of people experiencing unsupressed, prolonged gunfire without ear protection and being totally fine.

It's probably why so many people who handle guns for the first time are jumpy. No concept of how loud a round really is.

Since when is the Barrett M82/107 a bolt action? The opening scene in Shooter was ridiculous. And his spotter hitting with deadly accuracy with a weapon (M203 Grenade launcher) being used at twice its maximum distance? Also, why were Marines wearing Army cammies?

I am confused. He didn't have one of those in the opening scene.
