imagine the fully decked out Golden Army as wights. Maybe it was a good thing they didn’t get the elephants over haha.

Idk. That shadow of a dragon flying over rooftops appeared to be in some warm-looking sunny weather. Just saying.

No one ever accused Ned Stark of having a brain. Dude was an idiot. Sansa comes by it honestly.

Has the potential effectiveness of iron been discussed at all?

We know steel doesn't do a damn thing. But what about iron?

Old nan once said "In that darkness, the Others came for the first time ... They were cold things, dead things, that hated iron"

This also plays into the crypts where it was mentioned numerous times that "statues of the dead lords of the castle have iron swords resting on the laps..."

Iron islands, Iron throne, Iron.

I think the conclusion will reveal obvious foreshadowing throughout the series. What if the answer was something this in your face?

It would signify that GRRM and the show writers failed basic metallurgy. Steel has more iron in it than "iron" does. ETA: well, most most iron.

so who was in on-board in the "most of the fleet"?
Nobody much except the Greyjoy sailors. You had Elaria (sp?) Sand and the Sand Snakes, they were on the way to pick up the Dornish army. It makes sense that if you're going to pick someone up, the ships are practically empty; otherwise you don't have a lot of room to put more in.

Same thing occurred when the Unsullied took Casterly Rock. They had disembarked and had taken the fortress when they realized it was empty, and then Euron attacked the fleet that took them there. Greyworm saw that from the castle.

So, Dany has lost- most of her Westeros allies.
Dorne is a no-show. The remaining Tyrells lost, and probably half of their bannermen turned against them and fought under Randyll Tarly. The majority of the Greyjoys loyal to Yara have been taken out in those 2 sea battles.

But of HER troops, they should be pretty much intact. The forces that surrounded Kings Landing at the beginning of S7 Ep 10, have not seen any further action yet.

Now, whenever you see the Dothraki alongside the Unsullied, it doesn't look even as numerous. But they're coming in chaotically and on horseback, not in tight formations. There's probably a good 20K+ mounted and jonesing for a good fight.

Hell, remembering the way the Dothraki hit the Lannister lines in Spoils of War, I'd say Night King can't be at King's Landing, he has to be at Winterfell. Numbers aside, the dead are disorganized as hell. Without him there, the Dothraki sweep the field a few times with Jon and Dany burning paths, and then the Unsullied and Northern armies keep them contained for more sweeps. Everyone has the weapons to bring them down, so as long as nobody loses their nerve it would be a wipeout.

yes I think we will be given some hope by early success by the good guys. It won’t be a straight slaughter of the living.

but we both know it’s not gonna end with hugs and high fives
that’s not the GoT way

I will be interested to see if there are mass desertions from some when they actually see the dead attacking. Those zombie giants have got to scare people shitless.

Although, they seem like they're a lot more vulnerable now that the living have dragon glass. Like if an undead giant is shot in a nonlethal part of their body with a dragon glass arrow do they automatically die?

I know dis. Good. He can burn Kings landing with the quickness, raise the dead there, then circle back with a giant army to finish off what’s left of the living (assuming the white walkers and the army of the dead don’t kill them all)

Basically I will have wasted all this time watching this show if it doesn’t end this way. There is zero chance or reason for the living to defeat the Night King and the army of the dead.

It’s fricking impossible.

ALL HAIL THE NIGHT KING

Edit: also he could fly to Essos and burn all those cake eaters too.

D&D have created an impossible situation.

You look familiar, were you in Stomp?

Edit: after typing this, I realized the dynamic between Bran and Jaime is that entire scene from Scary Movie 2. One guy in a wheelchair, the other with one good hand.

Hasn't the NK failed every time he's tried in the past according to the 3ER?

Unsullied will stand and fight, it's all they know. Same goes for the Dothraki, it's an honor to die in battle. The remaining Nights Watch and Wildlings, it's do or die at this point. They've both been through so much.
The Northmen are the most likely to blink, but they're defending their homes.

Curious about this. That undead bear dropped like a rock when Jorah hit him with the dragonglass dagger, had been wrecking shop before. The wight brought to King's Landing kept moving and attacking when cut to pieces, then again turned right off when stuck with dragonglass.

Said it in another thread, the Night King has a chunk of dragonglass in his heart, that's part of what gives him his power (along with spells and magic). I think dragonglass breaks the connection to his wights and the other WW, they go offline when they're hit. I don't think you have to hit anything "vital", because there really isn't a vital organ left. The limbs are more important than the head... I think when Bran made it to the 3ER, Jojen was killed by a headless upper torso.
