Bro, you're in the world of Netflix being high quality acting and film making. Literally the only human being in the whole movie was Duncan.

Right. Which is kind of genius, the way they handled the visions.
Jamis did show him the ways of the desert, and the Fremen. Just not in the ways he thought.
Arrakis teaches the attitude of the knife - chopping off what's incomplete and saying: 'Now, it's complete because it's ended here'

Sitting in the theater right now about to take it all in. Large coke zero, small popcorn, recliner, Dolby atmos sound…Let’s ride.

Hilariously, I’m watching this right now in a hotel.
While it does leave a lot lacking in dialogue, SFX, and the internal monologue is atrocious... they do a much better job of explaining the world than the new one does

quote:well, we still have another half to go with the new film. They may put more attention into other areas. It may be a 2 parter for all we know or 3+ hours lol..Plus the HBO max series, indont kniw if it will be 8-10 episodes or just a mini series. But if it is also successful, possibilities are endless.

Well this blows it away.
i'm still buzzing from the imax.
i'm 55 and feel like i've been waiting my entire life to see frank hebert's ornithopters on screen the way he described them.
NAILED IT! N.A.I.L.E.D. I.T.
i was blown away by the starships and other vehicles in this movie. makes star wars new movies look like cheap trash by comparison. Unbelievable job. Just beautiful.
I'm happy they only got 1/4 through the book. Too good of a story to rush through it.
villeneuve you the master. you killed it. glad you had blade runner under your belt to sharpen your vision!

I haven’t read the books, but I went because well made movies are worth watching. I loathed the ending, but the acting is great, and the visuals are what you’d expect. Overall, worth the $6 matinee ticket, but won’t watch it again and it’s very unlikely I’ll watch the sequel.
its not for you.

We get closure on Leto, Duncan and the idiot doctor. Nothing on the cyborg man.

you disagree the ships were MUCH more realistic in this movie?
maybe watching it on imax spoiled me but star wars ships in the new movies look like cartoons by comparison.

I loathed the ending...
I would be interested to hear you explain this in more detail...
but as many have already stated, what you saw is not really the ending.. its more of a months/years long intermission...
I get the frustrating part of that..

I totally agree with you. The Lynch version gets a lot of flak, and I really love the new version, but the Lynch version did a much better job of explaining what's going on IMO.

this thread is going to come down to book-readers vs casual movie-goers. no way around that.
i knew exactly what was going on and i read the book 40+ years ago. what part of the story didn't make sense to you? they explained the bene gesserit influence on paul and his mom, the emperor's motives in putting artredies on that planet, the harkonnen betrayal and meeting the natives/freemen.
its honestly not hard to follow unless you took exception to paul's visions which are really difficult to turn into a screenplay and i thought villenueve did a fanstastic job bringing that element in as well. the movie won't work without it but considering that part in the book is described by what paul is thinking in his head..its tricky to get on screen.
eta the second (third?) movie is going to blow your mind if you've never read the book. shite is going to get crazy.
i'm still 'buzzing' over the FULLY working vision of the ornithopters. that shite was lit.

The worm scenes were unique for me because someone near was eating red hots. So it seemed like the spice was real.
This is the best comment that I've read on the site in a long time. Frickin' outstanding.

I have read the books, but Villeneuve is getting a lot more love because people are still killing Lynch because of the messiah/sound weapon aspect of his movie.
But IMO Villeneuve's omitting the Emperor's daughter as the narrator, completely omitting The emperor all together, and totally eliminating the influence of the guild navigators is being overlooked because this movie looks gorgeous LOL!

He half assed this too, but at least he tried LOL!
Again I love the new version too, but 20 minutes of dream sequences could have been tossed out and the guild navigators coming to see the emperor could /should have been added.
With this said I've watched it 3 times already and cant wait for part 2, but Im a Dune junkie.

I enjoyed it. I’ve never read the book nor seen the original movie.
