Lady Margot is a Bene Gesserit also. The actress is Lea Seydoux, she was the Bond girl in the last two 007 movies. She’s usually dressed in green or black, she’s the one at Feyd’s birthday celebration and the one who seduces him after the battle. Princess Irulan is Florence Pugh from Oppenheimer, Outlaw King and Black Widow. She’s the emperors daughter, she wears white a lot and is always covered up in those metallic looking silver outfits that kinda look like armor when she’s not on their home planet.

Thanks, I'll have to go back and pay more attention... I was confused who was the one all dressed up when Margot was telling the head Bene that she had a female in her womb.

When all 3 of them are together the princess is the short one.

Ok, another dumb question... When Paul and Jessica both realize they are Harokken and Paul says "that is our way to survive" or something like that... What is he referencing?

Because he's already on the path he's on and it stays the same until Part II ends. Outside of him saying "high grandfather" when he kills the Baron and "cousin" he doesn't mention him having Harokken blood to anyone else.

Him saving the people and making the deal for the princess' hand is based off him being an Atreidi and leading the Freman.

It’s not a dumb question and it’s another area that wasn’t covered enough because room had to be made for a certain someone. He doesn’t believe in the prophecy but decides to manipulate the Fremen using the prophecy to accomplish what he wants to. Remember him telling Gurney that gaining control will lead to horror? His plan was to stay away from gaining total control then after he wakes he decides to gain control and assert his power like a Harkonnen. And he does mention it to Feyd calling him cousin before they fight. What’s strange is that in part 1 the Barron calls Leto cousin as well so is Paul referencing that distant relation or the newly found close relation?

They’ve fricked up Chani’s character and in turn their relationship so much that none of it makes any sense at this point.

Eh I disagree or I at least think we should let it play out. Book Paul and Chani don’t make for a very compelling movie plot if we are being honest.

You do realize that the movie divided the Fremen when there actually is none, just to rationalize Chani’s hypocrisy and girl boss card right? It’s not like he gave Chani a more elevated role with more dimensions to her character. That would’ve been fine and actually added to the movie. What he did was drop a modern day girl boss trope into a story that didn’t need it and cut out a lot of things that it did need to do so.

Visually stunning, but emotionally flat like the first one. Reduced an epic story too much and transformed the Chiani character from a fascinating one into a sullen girl played by a bad actress. The ending came off as an afterthought. Technically, well done, but everything I’ve seen from Villanueve is lacking in story.

Pretty rough take that most disagree with.

Most haven’t read the books.

It’s fine for what it is… very pretty to look at and most of the performances were solid for the little character development there was. Zendaya, outside of the coveted diverse look, I fail to see the appeal for. She has like two expressions and almost zero emotional range. And Chiani wasn’t an angry brat raging at her people’s prophecies.

I understand, however feature film & books are 2 very different things. To adapt 100% of a book to film will not happen. Liberties must be taken. With that, changes are made.

The studio must have gotten involved. D.V. Never releases directors cuts and has been vehemently against doing it but we’re getting one for Dune 2. Also just watching the movie, the editing is poor, in some spots it’s chopped to all hell so again this points to post pro changes. It’s also been reported that scenes for Paul’s ordeal with the water of life, Jessica’s water of life scenes, Thufir Hawat, the Harkonnens and Gurney were cut out, presumedly to make more room for needless Chani nonsense. This all points to studio interference.

If that is true, no way he'd come back for the third movie.

2 seemed hurried. Just like the one with Kyle.

Why?

I understand you can’t cover everything, but why completely change the nature of key characters or sacrifice the political nuance that drove the plot so you can shove in more CGI?

To be fair, it was much closer to the story than many adaptations are, it just lacked in places that were vital.

Translating some lit into screen can be altered maybe to change a delivery mechanism for certain parts of the narrative for different reasons but changing the narrative is almost never a good thing especially in this case where it not only doesn’t add to the story but actually takes away from it. Using that cliche as an excuse here doesn’t wash.

This part I can agree with. I found nothing believable about Chiani.

I'm not a big reader and haven't read the books, but genuinely curious about the story now.

I may have to see if I can find a cliffnotes version of the original story and how it differs from the movie.
