The studio must have gotten involved. D.V. Never releases directors cuts and has been vehemently against doing it but we’re getting one for Dune 2. Also just watching the movie, the editing is poor, in some spots it’s chopped to all hell so again this points to post pro changes. It’s also been reported that scenes for Paul’s ordeal with the water of life, Jessica’s water of life scenes, Thufir Hawat, the Harkonnens and Gurney were cut out, presumedly to make more room for needless Chani nonsense. This all points to studio interference.
I could see that as this is a very disappointing DV offering. They spent too much time on the Paul Chani love story only to toss it in the trash at the end. Very uneven story telling jumping from one plot thread to another. And no navigators. How can you leave out the guild and the navigators? The third version will bomb as this thing is losing steam fast. Maybe it should have been three movies that end w/ Paul taking over Arakis. The third movie and the HBO series do not need to be made.

Not always but most of the time she doesn’t even feel like she’s in the movie. It felt like she was existing along side of the movie if that makes sense.

I agree with everything you said but I’m not going to give up on it yet. We have to remember that WB was coming off the financial bomb after bomb including extended franchises so part 1 had to be done very carefully leaving a lot of stuff out and 2 wasn’t greenlit until after 1 was out. Then 2 had a bigger budget and needed to have more mass appeal so that one was streamlined in terms of world building and scope. I’m not going to fault DV for operating under these restraints. This should’ve been a 4 movie series that’s been cut down to 3 and initially wasn’t guaranteed even 2 and it’s done well enough to warrant extending the universe. Now DV has said he’s only going to do the 3 movies then he’s out though he will stay on to consult and help with further installments. All said it’s a good thing that we’re finally getting Dune done well enough to bring this universe to the general public and if they make the right hires going forward we can still get a satisfying universe from this IP.

The HBO series might have potential.
The Chani thing. The actress played the angry woman the whole time. She never came off as Paul's partner and lover as she did in the book.

Exactly, they make a point to not have her tell Paul she loves him and to qualify that she’ll stick with him only if he does what she approves of. She continuously makes it a point to stress that she’s only fighting for her people not for Paul and she says she doesn’t trust him well into their relationship because he’s a foreigner. This leaves their relationship and Paul’s choices pertaining to Chani weightless even though they try to convince you to feel something about it. She’s also very hypocritical when it comes to her own people always claiming that she’s so committed to Fremen culture even though she’s in constant opposition to it.
