Watched this last night. Definitely not as good as part one.

Disagree but they are both excellent so you’re splitting hairs

I only completed about 45mins last night but yes. SPOILER ALERT*****Also, if the Fremen just need to zap a spice harvester once with a rifle to have it blow up, why not just continue the sniper attacks on the spice harvesters like that? Just one warrior buried in the sand who would probably survive the counter attack. Instead Captain Chin and Zendaya attack with a large group and suffer over 50% casualties. Chalamet and Zendaya love story is boring. Neither actor has the chops to lead. They would have actually been better off with Spider Man as the lead. At least he has some chemistry with Zendaya. Bardem manages to be brilliant in scenes and then just weird. Christopher Walken is too old to be the emporer (Jose Ferrer was better) and they somehow made Florence Pough unsexy. I didn't think that was possible. Still waiting to see some navigators. I like the Harkonan scenes better than the first movie even though Kenneth McMillan destroyed as the Baron. They managed to make them even creepier.

Still a very good movie and one of the best of they year. I should have seen both in the theater as people pointed out. Movies like this require rapt attention and I did not give it that last night.

In the books if a laser hits a shield it causes a big nuclear explosion. Assuming it's a mix of getting rid of those bug helicopters so as to not accidentally nuke themselves, get rid of the helicopters so they don't get hammered once their position is revealed and, most importantly, a good looking set piece for an action scene

I felt like they missed some opportunities.

Alia. WTF? I might be remembering wrong, but pretty sure she was born in the book before the last battle.
Chani. She was fine all the way to the end. Paul made it clear in the books that his marriage to the princess was strictly political. He even says that there would be no children and Chani would be his real love.
Reverend Mother. Paul's mother had to become a reverend mother because of the tension caused by having an unwed woman in the group. So it wasn't become a reverend mother or die, it was get married or become a nun.

It's one of my favorite books of all time.

I'll rewatch it again to make sure I didn't miss anything. I enjoyed both the leads in the movie. I liked this Chani better than Sean Young and I liked MacLachlan as Paul better than this one. Stilgar was weaker in this one and I didn't like it that he was overweight.

Fair enough. I will assume they have to disable the shield before firing the rifles (although it didn't look that way in the rebel attack montage part).

Yeah, I assumed the ground attacks werebmore about knocking those helicopters down so they don't fly into the path of the laser and kill everyone and the montage was either post-helicopter or maybe that harvester never had them

As seen with Dune 84, that can be a tough thing to put on screen and have the audience accept. Don’t blame him for not putting that in

I don’t think that’s any different than what’s played out in Dune 2. They’ve definitely made Chani a different character than in the books where she is an all out believer herself, but I think that was also a good change given it’s a movie, without that perspective or some perspective on what Paul was heading towards, the themes and point of the story could easily get lost and the movie would feel more like a Star Wars happy ending instead of the sour note ending that highlights what Paul has just kicked off

Chani was completely awful in every way possible.

Except ya know being part of the prophecy and having character buildup to cry tears into his mouth

I tried starting this one today, and while it's compelling enough, I'm just having a hard time getting excited. To be fair, I was only 30 mins in when I needed to go. I believe the Fremen had just taken down the big Harkkonen spice extractor when I needed to go.

In that first ambush scene, though, it was so surreal and ridiculous to see the Harkkonen soldiers floating up the rock formation. I get it that it's sci-fi, but the visuals and execution were absurd to me.

Thats where as someone just watching and not reading, I was confused... Why kick her to the side and not tell her what he had to do? He told her that he would always love her, but left her in the dark.

And isn't the princess preggers with the Haroken guys kid after his ceremony when she comes back and says "a female for the bloodline" or something like that?

Lady Margot is carrying Feyd’s child not Princess Irulan. With the Paul and Chani thing don’t look too deep into it. They’ve fricked up Chani’s character and in turn their relationship so much that none of it makes any sense at this point.

Ah, so who is Lady Margot? Assuming one of the special people like Jessica is?

And I could have swore Margot (could be misremembering) spoke about her father in the beginning. About him turning his back on the Atredies or whatever.
