Does the Movie Theater enhance your film experience?

I saw Obsession Friday during the day with only 2 people in the theater, and thought it was good but nothing amazing for a horror movie.
Do you think attending movies with a 50% or more filled showing enhances the experience?
I usually only get to see movies during the day because work/family.
The only 2 movies I’ve seen in recent memory on release night were Police academy (only one in theater) and weapons (read the screenplay 3 months before it was release so knew the twist but enjoyed the ride getting to the twist). Does the crowd experience makes the viewing better or not really?
Or do you rather going alone in the middle of the day?

I'd rather go alone on a Tuesday afternoon (by myself) when I typically have a theater mostly to myself. I absolutely love the theater experience but would prefer sharing the room with as few people as possible. Less retards playing origami with their popcorn bags or talking the entire time (not hating on people eating popcorn but there's always that one guy acting like he's unwrapping Christmas gifts). And usually if I take a date, she wants to play Mystery Science Theater 3000 the whole movie... and holy frick, I don't know how you married guys manage to watch scary movies with women.
I live in Atlanta and go to the Regal at Atlantic Station a lot. Friday/Saturday nights are an utter nightmare with inconsiderate people and it never fails, someone is guaranteed to bring an infant. So if it's something I really want to see, I'm going on a weekday before 4:00pm.

A less packed weekday afternoon would be ideal for me. Get your choice of whatever seat, pretty much, no pricks on their phones to disrupt the viewing, no kids climbing all over the seats.

Empty theaters are the best way to watch a movie. Crowds make it worse.

Yes. Although I tend to not go to comedy movies in theater .. way too much chatter

I’d prefer the theater as empty as possible
The more people in there the greater the chances of surrounded by dickwads who lack decorum on how to act or have their cell phones ringing and yapping throughout
I love going to the movies. But I won’t go on an opening night/weekend show. It’s usually the Thursday it opens or a Sunday matinee

A theater is the best way to see a movie. Weekday matinee is best. Friday and Saturday night too many teens who won’t shut up or put their phones away

I fricking loved going to the movies, but they've made it so damn expensive.
You gotta pick the crowd for the movie.
Star wars, Lotr, Harry Potter type premiere? You gotta go opening night. Watching with franchise fans is awesome, they get so hyped.
Horror movies? Late night opening weekend. Again, the crowd is part of it.
Drama movies/Oscar contenders? Tuesday afternoon. frick the crowd, they'll ruin it.
Basic comedy movies? Watch at home.

Yup. Michael would not have been as good on a tv as you miss out on the concert experience in the movie. Gone with the Wind, Ben Hur, saw them this year on big screen. Feels like you are in the middle of the scene.

May get a summer pass to a theater and take a few days off work and kick back on a weekday a watch a few movies there. Not tell anyone.

I think it really depends on the movie. Infinity War and Endgame were awesome with a packed theatre and sensing the energy in the audience. Saw Conjuring 2 in theatres and wanted to punch all of the idiots who were over reacting to non-scary scenes and moments.

Depends on the movie.
Some kind of mystery or crime drama, etc. I’d rather go in the middle of a random weekday where there’s a little to no other people.
A blockbuster action/sci fi movie, horror, or comedy can be more fun with a big crowd.
Going to see Superbad in college with my buddies and a theater full of people is probably the best time I’ve ever had watching a movie. Paranormal Activity was fun too.

Comedies are fun in a packed theater; laughter is contagious and it seems to make it funnier.
Horror movies, the less the better.

just the opposite - it detracts from the experience for me. So much so that the last movie I saw in a theater was Black Hawk Down.
We have a nice-to-us home theater setup; it's not Dolby Atmos but I'm happy with it.
I can pause it and go the bathroom whenever I want w/o missing anything.
I can turn on subtitles because I've become dependent on them.
I can eat my own nachos and beer.
I don't have to listen to anyone else talking during a film.
I don't have to fight traffic and people getting to / from the theater.
Having said that, there's a few movies that I'd like to see in IMAX if we had one where I live, but I don't.
Yes, I'm a grumpy old man

Yes.
I prefer an empty theater with reclining seats. However, I did have a lot of fun at the packed midnight showings of the Star Wars prequels, Nolan Batman trilogy, etc., back in the day. But movies aren’t that hyped (and good, for the most part) anymore - nor are there midnight premieres. It would seem experiences like that are essentially over.

Yes, but like the old video arcades, they are going extinct because of home technology. It's sad, and I'll go to them as long as they last, but AMC stock is almost at penny levels.

I love the theatre and recently started going back with my four year old. When I was in junior college we have a theatre walking distance from school and I had a 3 hour window between classes on semester.
I went all the time back then by myself and loved it lol

Popcorn movie? Yes. Big screen and great surround sound make the atmosphere. Audience can help too.
Other movies? Depends on what it is.
Dramatic Oscar bait stuff typically doesn’t benefit from it.
Something very atmosphic like The Hateful Eight or The Thing would benefit, but those technically fall into the popcorn movie category.

Any movie is better in the theaters for me. Gives you a more immersive experience and less distractions than being at home
On the other hand I do have a hatred of eat in theaters. All for getting some snacks and pop corn but I don’t want to have 5 waitresses running down the isle every 5 minutes in a movie to push out overpriced waffle fries
