i really liked the first season of "the Americans" on FX. For some reason, just lost interest about 3 episodes into the 2nd. Only show i ever gave up on after 1 season. from what ive heard though, seems i need to finish it.

This was exactly my thirst thought as well.

Nah, I like to finish things I start. One quality people don't seem to have anymore.

I do this between seasons because it takes a fricking year and I find myself no longer interested after that long.

Ray Donavan. The first two seasons were great, but they kept pulling further and further away from what made the show fun: Ray doing his job as a Hollywood fixer, It just kept getting darker and darker and more depressing. I think I gave up in Season 4 and never finished it.

I feel like this is a thing with Showtime. Ray Donovan and Shameless come to mind. I like them both but increasingly I felt like I needed to shower and take a walk after watching.

Happened to me with The Americans and Vikings. Still haven't finished either show. Sneaky Pete also.

Finally forced myself to finish Man In The High Castle. Kind of wish I hadn't.

You are describing all showtime shows, start great but slowly go in direction you don’t care about and start to suck

Yes, Shameless. I love the show, and I'm so into it the entire time. But, for some reason I've started the show twice now and given up somewhere around season 8

I did the same thing, then picked back up with my wife. Caught up to last season, then didn’t watch it for some reason. A year later we picked it back up and knocked it in like day.

The Americans rules but kinda just is the same show over and over agin for awhile. Seems like they didn’t know when it would end so there is some filler. The last season is the shite

Walking Dead
Homeland

Only so many times you can recycle the same plot with different characters.

Man in High Castle...something about the guys son being sent away just was so absurd I just had enough.

Absurd? The nation is run by Nazis. That is what the Nazi regime did in Germany. They were trying to get rid of all birth defects by killing off the defective genes.

I totally get losing interest MITHC, but your reason seemed strange to me. I wish I lost interest instead of wasting time on the last season.

Happens all the time. It’s not a phenomenon, it is natural. And the causes are many. Key characters die off, the show goes off on a tangent or follows a hit character but leaves the original premise behind, the show goes woke and starts pushing agendas ...

But the main reasons are that writers simply run out of fresh ideas, move on to other projects and are replaced by less competent writers, or the show’s main concept is not suited for long term success.

Many shows are pushed beyond their potential.
