Pretty sure this has nothing to do with the news division.

That's a ton of money. Would Netflix be able to enter the fray?

And Rosanne and Last Man Standing weren't that liberal (Disney - ABC).

Seth MacFarlane will be happy that he's no longer linked to FOX News.

Real talk, the only thing pretending to be conservative on FOX is the news and the pundits.

It’s crazy that Disney has that much money to throw around. Hard to imagine. I guess the fox properties would make it worth it.

They have the same value as Disney, but I haven't seen them have an interest in broadcasting or cable.

Disney’s long term plan is to expand their ability to create and broadcast content.

This deal gives them the Fox movie library and studios, the Fox TV production divisions, various cable channels such as FX, plus a 30% stake in Hulu which makes them the majority owner.

Hence why this is worth so much to them.

I'm pretty sure FOX's broadcast channel is staying under the same umbrella as Fox News.

Exactly. I think Comcast got what it wanted, just to drive the price up as much as possible on Disney. Comcast does have to counter now though. Maybe Sony pictures?

Unless Disney plans to just convert HULU into their Streaming service (or make it an add on buy like Showtime or HBO), then they'll be cannibalizing their own market.

I think we'll see discounted Hulu/Disney streaming subscriptions for people that also get Hulu Live TV. They won't be caniballizing sales, they'll probably become the dominant player in cable streaming. AT&T giving away HBO and discounting phone service would be the only comparable value. Services like PS Vue and even YouTubeTV will remain also rans if Disney buys Fox.

I0Thought we didn't allow Monopolies in this country? How can we. Have 90% of all TV and movies and sports be owned by one company?

Their options are pretty much Columbia (Sony) or Lionsgate at this point.

An extreme outside chance would be Paramount via a merger with Viacom. It’s doable on paper because Viacom’s TV holdings don’t represent an antitrust problem but I don’t see the Redstones accepting a deal where they aren’t the chief power in the new company.

So Disney will now be a monopoly and everything at Fox will go SJW.

ABC, ESPN, Lucasfilm, Marvel...and now all of Fox's movies and TV programming?

Fox was the one network competing with ESPN...Now Disney will broadcast all things sports, make all the movies and dictate all news programming.

Time Warner Cable is SOOOOOO much worse. In my Army career I have lived in Comcast areas twice and Time Warner areas twice. Both times I lived in Warner's area I had to threaten legal action for them to refund me money they stole when I moved and even then it took 5 months to get the money back.

When I cancelled Comcast in 2009 due to a move it was quick, painless and efficient.
