AGS has always garnered a lot of hate. I've always liked it though. There are some bad points for it though (mostly that there was tons of penis in it; also, it always felt like it coulld've been at least like 20 minutes shorter), but there's a lot good about it too. I thought the actual football action was pretty good. I liked the characters (and hated the ones I was supposed to hate). Etc. I think Pacino's speech is pretty awesome, even if it is overly dramatic...but that was the point.

most of the movie was over the top

I always thought that was sort of the point of the movie. It was about the excesses of sports/pro sports. Everything from drugs to injuries to overbearing owner to ego to money to everything...

It's almost like a caricature/cartoon-ish version of professional football. I think it's a solid flick.

How can you not crack a smile when Lawrence fricking Taylor is all like "Don't drop me...I'm worth a million dollars.." with that stupid grin on his face?

well i have a joking man crush on putin for his epic public relations stunts and general badassery

but with the syria situation unfolding, and putin being the biggest foil, i had to give him the joking respect again

he's whipping out his dick and slapping our administration in the face due to the whole syria issue

Ann-Margret should have kicked Stone in the balls for the way they shot and edited her

I laugh everytime I see pacino dressed like he is going to a play or a fashion show. his glasses on a chain and his sport coats are hilariously bad.

The movie was pretty spot on with the concussion stuff. i think it should have been about the competition and relationship between Quaid and Foxx. Followup a second storyline about LT's health and LL Cool J wanting a new contract and it could have been great. Cut all the Ann-Margret lines, scale back the cameron diaz vs the good boys in the League, clean up the James Woods/Modine stuff

I like the movie but it is hilarious attempt to break the "real NFL" to the world when the book north dallas forty did it better 40 years before. Oliver stone sucks

Yeah that got a little annoying at times.

Also, I remember seeing (reading maybe?) an interview with Jamie Foxx about this movie and he was talking about how he and LL Cool J kept getting into arguments/fights on the set. He said that LL kept going at him and talking shite, and he eventually talked back. I remember something he had said about how LL eventually talked shite about "Let's compare bank accounts" or something like that, and then Foxx said they did and LL shut the frick up after that or something like that. I just remember thinking how the hell could JF have more money than LL at that time since he had basically been in In Loving Color and a little of The Jamie Foxx Show, but LL had been in music since the mid 80s, done movies already, as well as been in successful TV shows.

I thought it was way too over the top with the acting and script.

Seriously now, a dude has his eye pop out and they just keep playing like no big thing.

Plus a lot of the uniforms flat out sucked arse.

I give it a C-/D+

I liked it, some of the ideas were embellished a tad, but overall, not bad

Also cut the entire hooker storyline, sooo unnecessary

They didn't give Lauren holly nearly enough screen time. Her character was money

My man.

To me, Any Given Sunday feels like a guy that knows nothing about football made a movie about what he thinks football is like.

There may be a lot of truth to many elements in the movie. But its like every football and movie cliche is in it. Every hit is huge. Every catch is epic. Theres the running back that is a ball hog. Theres the LB that wants his bonus. Theres the past his prime QB with the bitchy wife. Theres the coach that always gives epic inspiring speeches. Theres the female executive that noone likes. Theres the evil team doctor thats sneaking drugs to his players and his white knight foil.

Hell, theres even the black mobile QB that falls victim to thug life, rap videos, etc.

After rethinking about it, the movie did kind of suck. It was shot to be "gritty" but it came off cheaply made. If that's supposed to be the NFL, it should have just secured rights to the CFL or Arena league team because it made it barely believable.

My favorite shot is one of the crowd and some dude is wearing a Miami Hurricanes shirt. Obviously shot at halftime of a game.

Only problem I have with it is taht Willie Beamon has like 2 good games and is all of a sudden doing METrx commercials and is a star of the town. Don't you think they would've waited until he at least played a whole season?
