Yeah he took too much of his medications and they blamed Harry's death on the nurse, that Dexter eventually killed.

Any reason to keep Showtime now that Dexter is over?
Shameless.
Californication.
That new comedy with the black cowboy porn star stereo salesman from "Boogie Nights" and Jean Ralphio from "Parks and Recreation" looks worth a try.

Fwiw the deb/dex angle is awful. Loved the ending, meh for the season.
Terse but complete.

No, they just said he had heart failure.
Dexter killed the nurse before he died and Harry got better after she was gone.

I am glad about the end and I'm interested to see where it goes from here, but other than that just another ridiculous, sloppy episode.
Why was there only one security guard on the roof?
Yet another major building with no security footage?
And worst of all, nobody takes a look inside a crime scene until the blood spatter guy shows up. Since fricking when?
Yep, this season has been sloppy and I've had trouble staying engaged. Valid points about the lack of manpower/coverage on the roof and no camera footage. And Travis is still at large and Dexter doesn't think investigators might not return to the church for any new signs/clues? I understand it's a perfect setting but sheesh whatever happened to planning not to get caught? In general it seems that the writers have progressively gotten more sloppy as Dexter has over the last 2 seasons.
I will watch next season though regardless because I want to see where they go with Deb/Dexter relationship. When Deb realizes all the unsolved cases are due to Dexter's need for self-gratification, she's going to be pissed big time.

I feel like this whole season could have been condensed to about 4 episodes. After 4 episodes Deb finds out and the season continues.
Overall this was a very lackluster season. The last 30 seconds don't excuse the entire season of shitty writing. That said, I'll check out next season, but as someone said, it's on a short leash.

And wasnt that Harrisons basket Travis had on the roof? Wouldn't Deb see that and think "that's Harrison's shite!"?
I'm not 100 percent certain, but I think he got that basket out of the dead couple's house.
Sure Dexter has been sloppy this year and yea everything has worked in his favor with the camera and such... but it's a TV show. How did everyone feel about 24? Jack should have died a million times.

I think the disappointment is with the overall writing and sharkjumping. There were a lot of subplots in previous seasons with dexter always trying to cover his tracks and such and now no shits are given about it. Also the season had some potential with it's antagonist but then just went for a stereotypical bad guy finish. How about Dexter dealing with a true criminaly insane person? What's his name could have been totally innocent not knowing anything about his alter ego and dex could have wrestled with whether or not a insane schizo is deserving of Dexter justice combined with his new found religion angle.. it could have made for a better season.
The Deb/Dex love thing was forced and didn't really go with Deb's character.. it's just a stupid plot device that will turn more of its fanbase away than anything else.

season 4 was one of the best crafted seasons. the biggest point was for Harrison to be born into blood like Dexter, and you don't realize it until the last minute of the final episode.
this season, though... it's lazy. it's thrown together. it kind of pisses me off, knowing what the show is capable of. not even Deb's fosterfricking desires or her seeing him make a kill could save it.

I just finished watching the season. The whole Deb/Dexter thing is awful. I would say it's forced, but it's also lazy, because the dynamic of their relationship has been an easy target for an edgy subplot since the show began.
My idea is that Dexter will play off the kill as a one-time event to avenge his son's near-death. Deb will believe his story, but begin to have a lot more questions about missing persons of interest and Dexter's constant late-night absence. Dexter is going to have to be a lot more selective and cautious with killing. Whatever the case is, I don't think the plot of Season 7 begins in complete chaos since the beginning of the season is almost a year away and you have to have some level of stability to start the new season.

I think that's a definite possibility. Dexter could say he got the idea from Rudy, which would likely resonate with Deb, given that she once found herself strapped to a table in plastic sheets at his hands. I hope they don't do that. I hope Deb has to deal with the full horror of Dexter. That would be a lot more interesting, I think. It would be insulting for her not to realize Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher and all the rest of it.

Yea, they need to go balls out with this angle. Deb will reluctantly go with it because of her feeling for Dex and in her heart of hearts agrees with it to some extent. The intern is definately going to play a huge role. Dex dissed his game and now he's going to take it to real life to prove to Dex he can beat him. I'm calling first casualty of next season to be Batista's sister or Quinn.

Please be Quinn, please be Quinn.
I rewatched the finale last night with my girlfriend. I came to the conclusion that it was some of the worst writing I have seen on the show.
-Mystery boat of refugees
-Coyote robs refuges, Dexter kills him.
-Dexter washes up on shore with a bunch of Cubans and some white couple walking a dog nonchalantly let him use their phone.
-Batista's sister doesn't freak out about the boat accident. Really no one does except Deb, and that's just to set up an awkward shirtless "I love you scene."
-The cops don't enter the murder scene before Dexter even though for almost every other crime scene the cops have gone in first.
-The cop on top of the building was a moron, but I'm willing to let that slide as most tv shows and movies portray patrolmen as being morons.
-What did Dexter inject himself with? Does he always carry around two syringes - one with tranq and the other with saline solution? There's no possible way that Dexter could foresee what was going to happen on the roof and have time to fill a separate fake syringe.
-Dexter is way smarter than taking Travis back to that church.
-Dexter's last speech was....fricking ...horrible. He drew... it...out...so...long... and had so...many awkward pauses.

Not the worst season (reserved for season 5), but definitely the worst written season. This season, looking back, had the potential for greatness only to be spoiled by laziness.

When his brother came back I though "Okay, this is going to get good." Then one episode later and he's gone and it's back to regular ol' daddy dexter.

After watching breaking bad, the flaws in Dexter become more obvious.
Dexter doesn't need to be going one on one with a serial killer every season. Sometimes, slowing down the plot and REALLY focusing on the characters internal struggle as they make truly difficult decisions works wonders.
See Walt from BB, many times (not all the time) the antagonist is something unseen and internal. For the majority of the show, the person he fights with the most is HIMSELF and it is awesome. The fact a group of writers can make an internal struggle of a chemistry teacher >>>>>> the internal struggle of a likable serial killer is very telling.

Seems like they were going to make a subplot out of Jonah in Nebraska, but dropped it as soon as they started it.
I was looking forward to a Trinity-like subplot with Jonah. Turned out the whole Nebraska thing was a big waste of time--all that came out of it was that stupid motel pen causing some temporary suspicion of Dexter (which was obvious the moment Dexter put it in his pocket).

I just watched the finale last night and have many of the same opinions that yall do. Had great potential, didn't live up to it. I'd probably put this season along with 5 as the 2 worst so far.
What can be done about the writing? Can we expect more of the same laziness next season or will they try to get their act together?

Which is why Season 2 was the best season. After a second watching, I'd put 3 as second best. Every other season revolved around a big bad with a ridiculous, elaborate M.O., and that concept really has room only for one, Dexter. Season 5 was the worst about this, with 4 right behind it.
