These “amateur critics” just forced Nolan to admit selling out. Punching down and using a straw man to do so only means one thing, they’re right.

I understand not liking a movie, but I don’t understand whining about other people liking said movie. It’s like people are taking the dismissal of their identity politics as a personal attack.

Nolan reminds me here a little of Scorsese a few years ago going on a rant about Superhero movies and how they aren’t “real cinema”. Spank bank material for film snobs.

Constantly avoiding the intent behind a question because you don’t like how it was asked is intellectually soft, not to mention insincere, and it doesn’t make you look as smart as you probably think it does. It makes you look like a troll, which might be your goal. I don’t know.

I have not seen the movie, but I do not need to watch it to know that I am not a fan of the way it looks. Do I think people think Noland is some type of next level genius, sure. Do I think the movie is good based on the trailers and casting? nope. Do I think Nolan is some transformative film maker? hardly. His best movie was the Dark Knight, hands down. But, I do not need to sit through an entire movie to know its probably not going to be very good or something worth my time. Deconstructing Odysseus is probably not worth my time.

All of this is fine. You saw a trailer and didn't think the movie looked good so decided not to see it. I do that all the time. That's a nice part of free will.
But imagine feeling that way then spending 3 months trying to convince other people that have actually seen the movie that the movie you didn't see is not good and they shouldn't like it. That would be what an insane person right? "I can decide not to see a movie but you don't get to decide what you like I will convince you it's bad even though I haven't seen it." Because that's what a handful of people on this board have done for months.

Nolan is fake outraged about getting free publicity to go see his movie, i. am. shocked.
The whole point of a trailer is so the consumer can form an opinion to go see it or not go see it. And if you keep releasing information about casting and speculation, then do not be surprise when people form opinions on it. Some people have figured out how to monetize their opinion, good on them.
But this whole, you have prejudged the movie, no I have judged the movie based on the best it has to offer, i.e. the trailer, that Noland put out and I have deemed it lacking.

I’m not sure I totally get Nolan’s point, bit he appears to be saying that “professional” critics can offer critiques and disagree with some or all of the choices of the director and writers without dismissing the work itself whereas amateurs come in with an agenda in opposition to whatever perceived agenda a film has and then dismiss the work as completely without worth.
Since we are on Nolan critiques, did anyone watch Ezra Klein’s video about the film. I have a pretty high tolerance for that sort of thing, but I tapped out after 10 minutes or so.
