Was CoM the original continuous one shot?
No. There had been long continuous shots done before Children of Men. Alfred Hitchcock was the first big director to attempt it with Rope in 1948. However, the technology was not quite there to allow for a single continuous shot so he had to hide his cuts as best he could.

I liked it a lot. It's pretty underrated too.

One of the best movies I’ve seen in recent years. Excellent.

there’s been a ton written on this.
my recollection is that the ambush and murder of Julian was a single long shot, and the siege of the building at bexhill was done over several days and then stitched together
my favorite part of the second scene is that blood spatter on the camera lens that they left in there. It gives the whole thing a war correspondent type feel

I saw this in theaters when it was originally released and was totally blown away. Made all Cuaron movies essentially must-watch material. The car chase and the battlefield scene at the end are GOAT material.

I hate to sound like an arse but, Jesus, you're so far removed from actually "getting" Gravity, it isn't even funny.
Note to anyone who has once watched Gravity but who, like me, didn't initially cotton on to its wonderful, implicit twist:
Rewatch the movie. Pay close attention to the dialogue and the visuals. Ask yourself 'why this, why that?' Once you catch on, rewatch the whole damn thing again with what you've figured out in mind. It's fricking awesome.
...
Also, CoM is great.

Classic made by a master. The smartest and also most intimidating director I have encountered .. well, PCW is up there too. He's nice enough, but knows everyone's job better than they do .... he made me nervous to be honest.
Good post because I'm due for a rewatch.

Yeah, After reading up on one of the other films here, I went gave this one a re-watch.
The Director, Alfonso Cuarón
Didnt realzie he did Great Expectations.
Which was a great film as well.

It's a 2 hour immigration propaganda film. It's as insidious as it is well-made.

It’s a two hour psa for why you should always wear shoes and not flip flops.

Great representative thread on how this board has changed in 10 years

I said the same thing years ago. It's pretty obvious, really.

The one shot car chase scene in this movie is simply brilliant:

It was obvious at the time when the film came out with the Abu Ghraib imagery.
However, I didn't care. Its an amazing film, a towering achievement. Sometimes you just have to put your personal politics to the back and appreciate art.
