I remember watching Superbad with my GF in college. I thought it was stupid. A few years later got drunk and watched it with the bros and loved it.

The Village. I went based upon the trailers and I had a different idea of what it was about. Did not like. Once I had a chance to reset and ignore what I thought I was going to see, I enjoyed it a lot.

What's interesting to me is watching movies after I have more life experience. Things hit differently at different times in your life. I don't think that's profound or eye-opening, but it is interesting to look at from outside of yourself and try and understand what's happened in your life to make you interpret art differently than you once had.
What I once thought was edgy is now straight cheese, or what was once a romcom now hits way too close to home. Someone mentioned Fifth Element, and that's an example of one I thought was edgy and awesome and is pretty hard for me to watch anymore. The first time I saw Love Actually I hated it, but I've oddly come to at least enjoy it (maybe not love).
I also have to remind myself to judge a film based on when it was made, and not when I'm watching it. If a film had a lot of copy-cats or set a style, it may age worse than it really deserves.
It's also fun to look at from a technical standpoint. The more I learn about things like photography, lighting, sound, writing, etc, the more I can appreciate something I used to take for granted.
I loved Dances with Wolves as a kid, but it's a slog for me nowadays. Same for Braveheart.
Younger me watched Blade Runner and couldn't follow it, but now I love it.
I used to love Apatow comedies, but they're not as funny to me.
Moneyball was ho-hum on my first viewing, but now I love it.
17-year old me loved the Matrix sequels, but now I'm like "wtf were they thinking?"

Napoleon Dynamite was almost incomprehensible when I first saw it, then it ate at me in the days that followed.
My wife's answer would be The Cabin in the Woods, because she thought it was going to be straight horror/slasher, not an homage to the genre. Now it's one of her favorites.

Ricky Bobby for me. For some reason, didn’t like it in theaters. Watched it again once it came out…just watched it again for the 357th time the other day

Magnolia. Didn’t like it at all first go round, but then again I think I was unfairly comparing it to Boogie Nights which I love. Watched it a second time a few years later and really got an appreciation for the movie.

I never viewed it a second time but I remember thinking Avatar was pretty good despite some of the cartoonish characters, but that’s while I was watching it. About 10 minutes after it was over I realized it was a Ferngully ripoff with impressive visuals. It got worse the more I thought about it.

So I'm guessing you didn't get to hear the shootout in the theater surround sound? I remember that experience probably more than almost any other theater experience.
ETA: the first time I saw Ace Ventura and my buddies were dying, I was not. The second viewing a few weeks later and after a left-handed cigarette and I was laughing my arse off too
I haven't seen it in years but I watched it a bunch back then.

Not a movie but a series. I was late to the Sopranos. I did not watch it when it came out but heard all the fuss. 10 years later, I finally started it and finished it in a pretty quick time
I think my expectations were that it was going to blow me away and be the best thing Id ever seen due to all the press it got. For some reason, it didnt. I mean I enjoyed it but I think I went in thinking I was about to be blown away.
A few years later I did a rewatch and the second time it was way better to me. I think the first time, I just was too hyped up

Burn After Reading. I really disliked it on first watch. Part of the dislike was so many actors going against my expectations for them. Finally I realized that Pitt, Clooney, Malkovich, McDormand; everybody were idiots. It's become a favorite.
Most Wes Anderson and Cohen Brother movies I like significantly more on the second watch.

The Big Lebowski. I had always heard how funny it was, but when I finally sat down to watch it for the first time I didn't enjoy it, at all. It bored me and I turned it off about halfway through.
Not long thereafter I decided to give it another shot, and I loved it. I think the first time it was just very different from what I was expecting. Once my expectations had been corrected, I was able to fully enjoy it for what it is.

Saw it in the theater with a buddy - was like "what the hell is happening!"
Later talking about it - another friend said "How many times have you seen it? You can't just see it one time"
He was spot on and today we still quote it!
"You're young, you got your health, what you want with a job?" is probably my favorite

My family's Thanksgiving ritual used to be throw Raising Arizona in the VCR after eating...

2001 A Space Odyssey. First time I saw it I thought was boring and stupid. As I matured I discovered I was the stupid one. Now I love it.

I’m super relieved to hear other people also didn’t get Raising Arizona because I thought something was wrong with me. I’ve only seen it once, but now I’m hoping the next time I watch it I can enjoy it.
Mars Attacks is another one. First time I saw it was back in theaters as a young lad. My father brother my sister and I when we were way too young to not be terrified. I watch it every so often now and it’s so damn funny.
