How is this movie labeled comedy/scifi? Was expecting a completely different movie, but this still was decent. Acting was excellent.

They tried to pull a "The Bear" and win easy awards by putting it in the comedy genre.

Watched it last night. How did Plemins not get a nomination for that performance? Stone was good, but Plemons played that part like a fiddle.

Enjoyable movie.

5/5. Plemons was snubbed. So far it’s the best movie I’ve seen this year. Still have more to go though.

Spoilers: Holy shite that ending.

Just came out on Netflix today. It kept me guessing until the very end. Damn good movie! Great acting all around.

Everyone knew she was an alien before the big reveal? Guess I'm a moron, I missed all the signs. I'm glad my friends didn't spoil the movie.

Watched last night on my plane after seeing someone ahead of me watching and Plemmon's role looked intriguing.

Decent flick, but holy shite, that ending fricking blew. Had they made the aliens more advanced and less tribal huttish/corny, it would have been a really good film.

Plemmons acting was an A

I assumed she was after the first trailer I saw.

Well, the signs were there but the story was meant to be ambiguous: was Emma agreeing with Jesse that she was an alien as a desperate ploy to escape, or did she know the jig was up and was actually admitting to being an alien?

The way I was analyzing the movie in realtime was that if Plemons was just crazy and Emma was just going along with his delusion as a means to escape, it would have been a nothing story. So I concluded that it would be a far more interesting story if Plemons was right.

I did a rewatch and I thought it was fascinating, because now we can take Jesse's and Emma's conversations at face value. When Emma discovered that Jesse had experimented on and killed numerous people trying to confirm his theories, and Emma pointedly asked "How many Andromedans?", her anger was real.

I was convinced she had been kidnapped by a psycho serial killer until this line. The reason is, her character wouldn't have been able to perform so adeptly. She was playing along,, but this line was delivered seriously. Emma flipped the switch for us.

Technically, she was kidnapped by a psycho serial killer whose actions ultimately caused the death of every human on earth. This is why we don't let members of the internet UFO community make first contact.

Well, you have a point there.

Oh, I also wanted to say, that as for the larger theme of the story, there are a lot of similarities to Landscape with Invisible Hand (2023), portraying the billionaires and CEOs as so out of touch with ordinary people that they are wreaking havoc on our world as if they were aliens.

I figured Jesse P was too damn crazy to be anywhere near the truth so I dismisses his theory. Therefore was caught somewhat by the reveal at the end.

PS -IMO Jesse role was an Oscar worthy performance.

Which did in the entire film for me....

Should go back and re-do the ending to make the aliens less 1980s ETesque and movie would be a solid B+, maybe A- for me.

ETA; Oh, and resurect Don and take him with her

The aliens had been testing and killing countless human subjects (because people all failed the alien corrective modifications). The nihilistic or misanthropic part of the movie is that failure because there's no such thing as an acceptable person on the alien standard.

If he had killed her would he have saved humanity? Probably not. Probably another member of the royal family takes revenge or does more testing and makes the same decision.

Although he had apparently trapped and killed aliens (as well as torturing innocent humans) before without being killed. So perhaps him whacking the queen saves humanity for at least some time. He was able to accurately determine her royal status.

I nominate a Tom Jones or Slim Whitman impersonator.

Not a bad movie but not a good movie either. Tried to be weird more than it tried to be good.
